Well, i'm finally going to see Tahoe and am shocked to see the temps so high and then so low in the evening. We are also venturing out to June Lake for hiking. I would love some tips on how to pack for mid September trip! Thanks!!
Lake Tahoe sits at about 6200 feet at lake level and goes up from there to the ski slopes. Daytime temps in September are warm and dry. Bring lotion for your skin and start out slowly on any hiking due to elevation. Nights are cool to down right cold, again due to the altitude. The Tahoe loop drive is beautiful as well as the June Lake loop with several lakes. Stop for diner at the Double Eagle in June Lake in the Eagle's Landing Restaurant. See their website: doubleeagle.com/restaurant.p...

The operative word would be LAYERS...Mornings will be cool but the days can heat up quickly. It can feel warmer than it actually is due to the lack of humidity. The North Shore is much different that South Shore where the larger casinos are located. Consider driving around the lake and doing some hiking in the hills around Emerald Bay. Most anywhere is quite scenic. Also head "down" to Carson City and the Washoe Lake area. I've spotted Bald Eagles in the fall and winter down there.

As posted, days can be hot and dry while the nights can be chilly. Layer up as you need to. When on the trails, be warned that due to the humidity, you'll be sweating much more than you think since it will evaporate away. Bring water or electrolytes. In September, the sun will still be pretty strong and with a combination of the altitude, clean and cooler air, sun burns are more common.

Hi Dave, My brother moved down the hill to Mt. Rose Hwy and his front yard almost at Hwy 395 from the golf course, tree lined street in Incline Village. No more guest room in Incline. :-(

Last time I went there, the house that I grew up in had been torn down to the foundations and rebuilt into a mansion. But thankfully my sister still has a small place on Brockway. Its small and cozy, but at least it always has a vacancy.
