Trying to find places I visited

by megookin Online Now Feb 6, 2013 at 4:44 PM

33 years ago I lived in Korea and some of the places I visited were:
* A place south of Seoul where there was a memorial to Yi Soon Shin and the turtle ship;
* A mountain side that had several Buddha's carved into it; and
* I think it was a Confucius Academy.
I lost all my photos from that period in time and am planning a trip back to Korea to visit these and other places again. Can anyone tell me where these sites are?
Thank You Very Much!

    what an interesting question and how interesting Im sure it will be for you to go back! - I enjoyed what I saw of Seoul and would like to go back with more time...but in addition to hearing back from vters here Id suggest a good guidebook such as the Rough Guide guidebook for South Korea or the DK eyewitness guide book - both elaborate a lot more and cover a lot more interesting sites to see in the country they cover - DK eyewitness guide is also very pictorial with a lot of maps

    all the best

    I think it would be a good idea to spend some time looking at photos in the Vt travel guides (pages and tips all written by Vt locals and visitors). You may find somehtig to trigger your memory.

    Here's South Korea:

    Individual locations are listed on the right e.g. Seoul:

    And North Korea:

    The first place was probably Jinhae (although alternative spellings exist):

    The second place could have been any number of places, but the first that comes to mind is Kyongju (again alternative spellings do exist) (a big Buddha is on right side of my photo and many others exist in the area too):

    The final place was likely Andong. It is the center of Confucianism in Korea:
