Hello, I am looking for assistance on the following planned itinerary.
We do NOT want to rush..
September first and second weeks - Peru -- Philadelphia to Peru, study 2 weeks Amauta Spanish School (increasing my fluency for my job), with weekend trip Lake Titicaca (although that may be pushing it)
September week three - Macchu Picchu (arrange when I get there) and checking out the area around Cusco
September week four, October week one -- Fly to Buenos Aires, one week Amauta Spanish school, one week exploring Buenos Aires and Argentina(side trip to Uruguay?)
October week two and three -- BA to Patagonia, Chile - My husband arrives, and as he is an avid fly fisherman, we are seeking TROUT and relaxation for two weeks. He does not like to travel quickly. I understand that trout season starts in October in the Patagonia/Lakes region.
So, a couple of days in BA, then fly to Patagonia (where? which city? haven't figured that), and find some RELATIVELY low cost fly fishing lodge where we can hang out and possibly do a cruise to the Torres natl park.
However I am afraid that the fishing may be much farther north than Torres so perhaps we cannot do both.
October week four --
Then we both fly to Santiago, and he will fly back to USA. I will be staying for another week, with probably a trip to Mendoza (over the pass) or perhaps just explore around Santiago. Then --.Fly back to Phila
any comment appreciated
In particular, please tell me if this is too much.
The goal of this trip is to improve my Spanish, see gorgeous scenery (hike/kayak if possible), immerse myself in culture/art/architecture, visit as many small towns (not cities) as possible. Also bird watching and trout fishing for my husband.
Cost is a consideration, so I have not considered doing this with a tour group, but rather doing it independently and hopefully cheaper. Except in Chile --In particular I am concerned whether it is possible to book a cheap (but good) tour/cruise/bus trip etc of Patagonia/Torres? Do that now or wait till I get there?
One final consideration -- is it insane to go to this area in October? Especially for the trout - is it too early? will it be freaking cold the whole time (not that we mind cold)
As you can see, I am scheduling this rather late so I will have to commit very soon.
many thanks in advance
I suggest to get a pass by LAN, flights would be cheaper.
about Patagonia (pretty cold during Sept/Oct) you can make a tour Puerto Madryn (during those months you find whales), Ushuaia, El Calafate and, again, it'll be pretty cold, you could go to Bariloche/Chile for fishing
BTW nothing would be cheap in Patagonia, don't be surprised if accomodations would have almost same prices of Manhattan...
While you are in Peru I suggest also a visit to Machu Picchu.
