Hi folks!
I need some information about this area. We are planning a tour starting from Johannesburg, ending in Cape Town 2 weeks in October. We want to visit Okavango, Moremi, Victoria Falls, Kruger Park and we need an advice about a good and reliable agency which can arrange us a package tour. Since we are 8 we cannot take the risk to arrange all the hotels and the tours by ourselves so we need a local assistance.
Is there anyone to help us about recommending a good company? Or do you have any other recommendations?
Thanks in advance.

Is Bayworld up and running....?
Is there a public transportation to
1) "Wijnland Auto Museum" in Joostenberg Vlakte and
2) "Franschhoek Motor Museum" in Franschhoek ?
both seem to be on the same way more or less and the only way to get to "Franschhoek Motor Museum" in Franschhoek seems to be a bus-daytour from Kapstadt to the Franschhoek-vinyards?
BUT will the motormuseum be next to the wine-tasting ??

How much could it be to hire a taxi for lets say 6-8 hours to get me there ?
Hi there,
I was just wondering if anyone has ever done volunteer tourism "Work with children in a township near Cape Town", and what were the highlights and did you like it????
We are docking at the port with Oceania Cruise Ship for barely a day (7 -5pm). Besides, Mpongo and Inkwenzi Game Reserves, are there other attractions for us to consider? Thanks.
We are docking in E. London only from 7am - 5pm on Jan. 10, 2014. The two near Game Reserves only taking bookings through the cruise ships. We are looking for reliable guide/driver to take us. Please advise. Thanks very much!

Any advice would be appreciated :)

Hi, I am planning to go to JB in a week. Can anybody give me some advice which transportation is the best and safe to go to downtown from the airport? Thanks!
Can someone recommend a (cheap) hotel near the airport for a family of 4. We´ll be arriving from Kruger, spending one, maybe two nights in the hotel before flying down to Port Elizabeth. What are taxi prices like in the Jo´burg area? Do they charge extra to take you to the airport (common in Spain)? If there was somewhere scenically nice we may stay longer to relax after early starts in Kruger. Thanks Tim
We would be in South Africa (Kruger, PE,Cape Town) Do we need to take any precautions such as anti malarial injections/pills? We do have mosquitoes in India and we have been exposed, however, the African kinds are supposed to be more dangerous. My husband has already been vaccinated for yellow fever which is valid for 10 years!! (he took this as a compulsory requirement to get his visa for Uganda) Do we also need yellow fever vaccination? Please advise.
We will be in Cape Town for 5 nights. We are a family of four(couple and teenaged boys) We wish to see the city center, Southern suburbs andTable Mountains, Atlantic Sea Board, Blaauwberg Coast, Peninsula and if possible Helderberg. Which area should we keep as a base? We would be entering CT through the Garden route. Thank you for your time, Seetha
Could someone clarify details of wild card entry into the park? We are a family of 4, husband, wife and two boys aged 18 and 15 years. I read that the family card would be applicable for a couple and 5 kids below 18. One of our boys is 18, so how can we apply? Which is the most economical card that would be suitable for us? We are Indian Nationals and plan to visit Kruger national park. We do not have plans of visiting any other major sanctuary or park, but may if we find something along the way. Do you think it makes sense to buy a wild card for entry?Thank you for your time,
Hello. I am planning on visiting South Africa in 2 months. I will be volunteering at a wildlife rescue. I will be arriving at Johannesburg airport and then taking another flight to Pharlowaba airport. I am a female and will be traveling alone. Just wanted to hear opinions on the safety at Johannesburg airport. I have read about tourists being robbed. I would appreciate an feedback and tips. Thanks!!!
How much would an average meal cost in Kruger National park/Cape Town/Garden route? Are there any specific grocery stores to get cut vegetables/fruits, bread etc?(like Migros in Switzerland) Any other specific tips regarding food for vegetarians please...
Been trying to locate a bed and breakfast/hotel. Have shortlisted a few... but which are the best areas to stay in? We are there for just a day and night to see the city and then moving on to Kruger National Park. We are looking for accommodation for a family of four(couple and teenaged boys) in the month of May
Any suggestions on good hotels -- comfort, cleanliness, location are our priorities -- in Johannesburg and Cape Town. We would need on large family room or two rooms since we are a family of 4 -- husband, wife and boys aged 18 and 15 years. Would need the accommodation in the 3rd to 4th week of May
We have planned the following Itinerary to South Africa, please let me know if this is workable or suggest a better one -- Day 1 -- land in Johannesburg and after a brief rest, take a city tour Day 2 -- Drive to Kruger National Park Day 3 -- Kruger National *(PLEASE SUGGEST IF WE SHOULD HAVE ONE ADDITIONAL DAY AT KNP) Day 4 -- Take flight to Port Elizabeth (halt at PE) Day 5 to day 14 -- Drive through the Garden route *(we hope to do some adventure sports along the way and make halts accordingly, any suggestions in this regard are welcome) Day 15,16,17 -- Cape Town Day 18 -- fly out of Cape Town We can extend this if required by a few more days. If so where should we add? Besides this should we cover Durban too? If covering Durban then we could take a flight to Durban after KNP and then take another flight from there to PE and then drive to Cape Town from there through the garden route. Any other not to miss wildlife parks in any of these places? Thank you for your time, Seetha
Hi, a colleague of mine is from South Africa. He told me that the best time to visit South Africa is March or April because it's not that hot and less crowded. That's why I've been waiting. I've just googled and found this consensus: the best time to visit the wildlife park (Kruger) is from May - October (i.e. winter/dry season) because you'll have a better chance to see the wildlife; and the best time to enjoy the beach and Garden Route will be from November to March. April will suit my schedule best and I thought it was the best season for most things. But it turns out it is best time for nothing? National Park, Garden Route and the beach are high on my list of things to do.
It was there on my last visit in Feb 2008, BUT searching for it in Google Maps a few minutes ago, it seems to have disappeared, replaced by pending construction. Can VT Members update me on the de facto situation please.
Hi! Can anyone please provide me with a telephone number of a wellknown fish market or fishery in Harties? I am currently in PE, but will be visiting Harties in the next 2 weeks.
The two "givens" are that we need to be at the J'Burg airport on the morning of Oct 27 and then on Nov 8 we will be done with the the photo safari portion of our trip. Coming from the states I am thinking a couple of days before in say Amsterdam and at the end a couple of days in Capetown before we head back to Los Angeles. I have some flexibility before and after and would like some ideas of that we could incorporate on either side of our safari time. We will be in the Kruger Natl Park for 4 days, then up to the Victoria Falls, then to Botswana, then to Chobe Natl Park, then to Okavango Delta. So I am looking for recommendations before and after. Thanks gang!! Karl
I am travelling with my family from overseas and arriving at night. Is the taxi service to a hotel safe and reliable?
I read that it takes approx 7 hours to drive to Springbok. If I am feeling ambitious, ho much longer could it take to get to the fish river Canyon area in Namibia? A 1 day long car ride, or is that stretching it? Is there a better place to stop than Springbok, or is there suggested places to see on the way? On my way back down to Cape Town I was thinking of stopping for a few nights in the transfrontier park on the Botswana side. This would be in March. Is that a park where seeing Game is guaranteed, or is there better parks to stop at on my way back to Cape Town? Thanks :)
Hello, I'm doing an overland trip starting in Cape Town and ending in Nairobi with Oasis Overland in 2 months time, and they are now asking me if I require airport transfer and first night's accommodation. The cost for the transfer is 18 pounds, the cost of the night in a 4-bed dorm at their recommended hostel (The BackPack) is 19 pounds. I'm seeing on google maps that the hostel is 20km away from the airport, and that booking the hostel myself is the same as their rate. My question is, is their airport transfer good value? I would have thought it would be a bit lower to go just 20kms... But then again I've never been to Cape Town. Can you please let me know what you think? Thank you very much in advance, Leon
