Three traveling Rome to Pompeii for the day in summer 2013. We were thinking of going to Sorrento just for the evening of relaxation -- dinner. We wanted a moderately-priced hotel (until you think we should go someplace other than Sorrento?) for the evening with a beautiful balcony/view. Any suggestions/thoughts. Thank you.
I'm going to be staying in Sorrento for a couple of nights with my husband, in-laws, and two family friends. Another aunt and uncle may be coming as well. The two of us will be there for two nights and everyone else will be there for an additional 1-2 nights.
We would, of course, all like to stay in the same place. We are open to hotels, B&Bs, or self catering apartments.
Maximum budget is 150EUR a night but of course if it's a little less, that's ok, too ;)
I'm only used to booking accoms for two people, so could use a little help for the bigger group booking! Any suggestions?
Thank you!
Hey!
Im thinking abt travelling to Campania with my mum in late summer. Ideally i would like to be close to Naples (was thinking abt visiting ischia also for a day or two, and also pompeii and herculaneum) however, im a bit worried abt safety in Naples since i've been reading some things online. staying in Naples would be cheaper, bt since im travelling with mum maybe staying in sorrento would be more comfortable?? I would like to hear ur opinions thanks!
We have opted to hire a car for our 5 days in Sorrento next week, to drive to and from the airport and to see the sights whilst there. I have read a few comments on various sites which lead me to believe that driving ourselves to Pompeii and Vesuvius may not be the best option; I would appreciate some advice. Thank you.
Hi VT people
My fiancee and I are spending a week in May in the Sorrento area. We have booked a villa in Nerano (about 16km from Sorrento) and plan to visit Capri and Pompeii whilst there. I particularly want to get up close to Vesuvius though. There are guided tours from about £150 for 2 people where you can see Pompeii and Vesuvius in the same day but would it be easy to DIY the experience? I know getting to Pompeii is very easy and cheap but I've read it is a pain to then go on to Vesuvius without a private driver. Is it worth the extra money for the full tour?
Cheers
Jimmy
Hi,
my wife and I will be flying to Naples from the UK in May this year, and I have booked a hotel on the outskirts of Sorrento ( Sant Agnello ) This is the first time in Italy for us and I am wondering if it is relatively easy to get from Naples airport to Sorrento by bus ? Also, I would be grateful for any tips on what to do and where to go whilst there. I believe that it is easy to get to Pompeii by train, so we will be visiting there. Any other suggestions would be gratefully received.
Thank you
We will be docking in Naples for 1 day this May. We want to visit Pompeii, but I also want to visit one of the picturesque towns on the coast. Should we shoot for the Isle of Capri, or Sorrento (or even another suggestion)? We like to go it on our own and not book one of the ship's excursions. Was thinking of taking the train from Naples to Pompeii and then Sorrento, if that is what we pick. Is that too much to pack into a day? It all looks so beautiful, it's hard to narrow it down!!
has anyone stayed at the grand hotel ambasciatori
Hi, I have booked a holiday and during the stay my husband and I are driving along the coast from Rome to Sorrento and was wondering if anyone can give me any tips of where to stop, sightseeing anything to look out for? I am excited as I can imagine the sights are outstanding! when I look on the map it looks as if we will be really close to the water, as it is an experience I probably wont repeat I want to make the most of it! Many thanks in advance for any tips.... Fileyess
Reading many of the posts and comments it appears that staying even one night in Naples is not wise. I have thus booked three nights in Sorrento and have a pretty full schedule of sights to see on at least two full days. Is it realistic to assume that I can take a bus from downtown Sorrento to the Naples airport leaving at 9:30 a.m. and be certain to catch an Easyjet flight to Venice at 1:50 p.m? Or would I be better off spending the last night in Naples and taking a local bus to the airport? Thoughts appreciated because normally I like to stay close to the airport on the day of a flight. Thanks.
Hello! My friend and I will be visiting Sorrento October/ November 2012. We would like to see/ learn things memorable and representative of the true Sorrento. (as opposed to tour guided) Mobility is an issue. What would you suggest?
Does anyone know of any beaches either in sorrento or nearby that I can walk to or get a short train/bus journey to?
I will be staying in sorrento for 4 nights in a few weeks time and would like to visit Positano. I won't be able to hire a car unfortunately due to age restrictions on that type of thing so will need to get the bus/train. Does anyone know of any trains/buses that I could get to go there for the day and maybe a timetable and prices if possible?
After visiting relatives in Giuilianova, we will have a car, and our next destination is Sorrento. So I am driving there, I think. I need to know if any of this drive will be the scary kind right on the edge of a cliff. Hopefully not. But if so, would i avoid that problem by dropping the car in Naples and taking a train or taxi? And what would that cost? And how easy is that to do? Thanks!!
Hello there, I hope that someone might be able to recommend an apartment, b and b or guest house accommodation in Sorrento? We only need a one bedroom apartment. Don't expect luxury, just somewhere clean, safe and respectable (ie, not used for 'dubious' purposes!) Don't have a car so it would ideally be within walking distance of Sorrento/port. Also, if we take the apartment option, is there anywhere in Sorrento where we can get breakfast (hot scrambled eggs etc rather than continental) quite early (around 7am onwards), or perhaps a hotel which is open for breakfast to outside guests and is reasonably priced? Thanks, Sian
Hi all I am looking for some good advice for where to eat when I go on holiday with my family on Sunday. We are bed and breakfast with our hotel, but will want to be eating out at least once a day. There are many restuarants in Sorrento which I have spotted on the net, but I have two small children under five and I have specific requirements. Here goes..................... I want good quality authentic Italian food in a setting where children are welcomed. I don't want too many people there as I don't want my children to feel rushed. I am so looking forward to going back as it has been 10 years since my last visit. Also, are there any parks where I can take my children to play or any activities within the sorrento area that would keep children entertained? Many thanks in advance Jo
Hi Everyone, I will be traveling from LA to the Amalfi Coast with my family (5 people), and we want to rent a car and travel down the Amafli Coast.. first of all is this a good idea? Should we fly into Rome, and start driving from there- what is the closest main city we can fly into? Or should we not rent a car, and take a train there and take bus and taxi services from there? Also, how should we split up those 5-6 days. I myself am 26, my sisters are 22 and 18 and our parents, so it is definitely not a romantic holiday. We like to hike, discover cute restaurants, go to the beach, and any other advice would be great. Should we stay in Sorrento? Positano, Capri? All 3? or other charming cities you can recommend? Hotels? Anything would be fabulous . Thank you so much!!!! Read more: Italy Travel Forum
Hello, we're coming to stay in Sorrento in June/July in self-catering accommodation and want to know if there's a supermarket type shop where we can stock up on food. Also, is there somewhere where we can get snacks, ie, filled paninis, that typeof thing, rather than a restaurant meal. We're on a tight budget so need to watch the cost as much as possible. Thanks Charlotte and Kev
Hi to all! We will be arriving in Sorrento on June 8th. I would appreciate if you could help me with the following questions: - We will be coming with friends and we will be celebrating our 10th and 30th anniversaries together. Any suggestionsa for a nice boutique hotel reflecting all about Italian coastal life. - We will be staying in the same hotel but we would like to visit other nice towns where we could go by car or train and go back to Sorrento to spend the evening. Any suggestions for towns worth seeing nearby? - What would be the weather like in June? - Any romantic restaurants? - Our friends will leave Sorrento after 4 nights but me and my wife will be extending our holiday for 4 more nights. We will be taking a flight from Napoli. Any suggestions for us to spend those 4 nights and come back to Napoli then? Thank you very much in advance
Hi,would love some help with a few travelling tips that I need.First time to Italy so very excited. Staying in Sorrento for four nights so are there any awesome tips on sights and good restuarants. Will do a boat trip to Capri and also Positano-anyting else? We wll be coming from Rome and were planning on catching the train to Sorrento I have been told this takes about 2.5 hours? Does anyone know what this would cost? Also would we be better flying from Naples to London rather than flying out of Rome-thoughts? Many thanks
i am planning on getting the italy-france eurail. i was curious to know if this takes you to sorrento? it looks like it does on the map, but when i read about it it says the circumvesuviana takes you, which i thought was the same train that took you to pompeii which costs extra. so in other words, can you use the eurail to get to sorrento? or does it cost extra? thank you!
Hello, I am planning on being in Sorrento in early May and I am looking for a direct travel route from Sorrento to Rome, if any exist. I have been told to look into the Marozzi Bus line, and I have, however, their site is only Italian and I cannot tell if they run daily from Sorrento to Rome, and if so, at what time(s). A 2006 posting on another travel site advises that the Marozzi line only ran a direct service to Rome in the summer months. If this is still the case, of course it won't work for me. Curreri bus lines are not offering their Sorrento to Rome service at the moment according to their website. Any other suggestions? Thanks KC4
So I am planning to put deposit down for seven nights in Sorrento tomorrow April 4th. I know its a very beautiful place and all the surrounding areas, plus I know it isnt cheap but just how expensive is it? I am worried its out of budget! I have read posts on forums etc about how dear it is, but no one is giving examples. Should I be worried or is there a variety of cheap, mid price and expensive places to eat and drink? we have half board in Hotel but Id like to eat out most evenings anyway. would like some reassurance I suppose !!!
Thanks everyone for you info and advise on previous question... Just like to now is it easy to get to Ischia from Sorrento.. how much would it cost, how long would it take approx etc? Any recommendations for spa days/half days etc that wouldnt be too expensive? Thank you
Hello, I am going to Sorrento for Seven nights at the end of July. I read thats its not noted for its beaches, is there beach areas on Capri island to sunbathe and swim? Also I would like to on a day tour or boat trip along Almafi coast leaving from Sorrento that arent too expensive, any recommendations please? Also it there a nice beach area that I could go myself by bus no futher than one hour away? I plan to do trips to capri, Pompeii, herculaneum and mount vesuvius? are these easy to get to by myself without booking tours? My boyfriend and I like to explore and would go off happily and do things by ourselves if we knew where to get bus/train etc, or is it more advisable and cheaper to get tour. Also is there anything else worth doing or a must see while I am in Sorrento? We heard its expensive in Sorrento, we come from Ireland , so I am wondering is it cheaper then there (I hope so) is there a mixture of cheap and dearer places to eat and drink? sorry for all the questions, hope someone can help and offer some advise. Thank you in Advance
I left my charger wire back home, and I have lots of stuff saved on my laptop for our trip in Sorrento. Does anyone know a place to ask if those were sold. My laptop is acer. Sorrento or Napoli? Sorrento would be better.
I´ve tried to find places to buy food (shops, not open air markets, because I want to find everything under the same roof from butter and milk to bread and juices, toilet paper etc..) with google maps by many different names, in English and in Italian (using dictionary) but I only seem to find souvenir shops or similar. How to find a ffod store, or do we need to just wait and see when we happen to walk by..? We will be staying at Via santa Lucia.
I just found out, that there shoudl be a micro brewery at Sorrento. Address was told to be Via Cala 5. Google maps doesn´t find it. Is there such address at all, or why I don´t find it? It´s told in here: mondobirra.org/micro.htm#cam...
Chow My wife and I are planning a two week vacation to Sorrento area in the fall. What time of year do they normally harvest the olives, grapes and citrus fruits? We would like to visit the sites to see how it is done. Thanks for your respones. Jack
If we would be return tickets to Amalfi (from Sorrento), could we stop at Postitano? Or do we need to buy one ticket to Amalfi, second from Amalfi to Positano and third from Positano to Sorrento? Does anyone know?
