      8 nights in California

      California May 1, 2013 at 4:18 PM

I am flying into San Francisco in July and spending 3 nights there. I will then rent a car and head somewhere north for 2 nights (Russian River area?) to do some hiking and kayaking. I will end the holiday with 3 nights in Carmel. I was wondering what town/city I could stay in to be close to hiking and kayaking locations. Russian River and Armstrong woods seem like good areas to explore but I don't know what town to stay in.
      Thanks for any suggestions.

    • From Long Beach to Dodgers Stadium

Los Angeles May 7, 2013 at 11:05 AM

Staying at a Long Beach hotel for a convention but will be going to a Saturday evening Dodgers game. We will have a rental car so...

      - Should we drive the car up to the stadium and get general parking?
      - Or should we drive up to Union Station/Patsaouras Transit, park there and catch the Dodgers Express Bus into the stadium?
-'Or should we totally leave the car at the hotel and take the Metro Blue Line/transfer to the Red Line into Union Station/Patsaouras (to catch the Dodgers Express)?

Ease and not sitting in traffic make the Metro & Dodgers Express Bus sound good but I've been told the trip would take approx. 2 1/2 hours each way. That seems like a long time but would driving ourselves take just as long because of the traffic? Your advice would be appreciated!

4 hour layover with 18 month old

San Diego May 15, 2013 at 5:11 PM

We will be landing in San Diego at 9am and then our flight home doesn't leave until 1pm. Is there anything we could do with an 18 month old (zoo? sea world? other?) during that length of layover. We would have to be back at the airport by noon, so not a ton of time really, but a bit too long to be hanging out at an airport with a bored toddler. We obviously won't rent a car, so would need to take some form of public transit. Sorry, if my question is ridiculous or unrealistic! Our trip is actually to Arizona, but we're flying home via San Diego and just realized the length of the layover, so we've done zero research on this city. Hoping you fine folks can help steer us in some kind of direction - even if it's recommending we stay put. Thanks!

      Parking in San Fran

San Francisco May 8, 2013 at 5:02 PM

Can anyone confirm if there are any public parking places where I can park my car for 3 days while in San Francisco?
I have got an amazing rate on the Galleria Hotel, Union Square but they have said that parking is valet only and at a cost of $45.00per day - kind of undoes the great rate they offered.

I'm driving to San Fran and then need it after San Fran for Yosemite and the airport run and could do without returning and rehiring for 3 days!

My fiance and I will be meeting friends in San Francisco on June 22 and driving to Napa for 2 days and then to Sonoma for another 2 days. We will have a rental car but our flights out on Ssunday are 6 hours apart with the two of us departing at 8 am and our friends at 2 pm. We are trying to come up with an alternate plan to get to the airport and leave the rental car with our friends so they can enjoy the balance of the morning. Does anyone know how if there is a car service (or shuttle) to the airport and what the aproximate cost might be?

      First time to Sonoma

by afrdrx Online Now May 1, 2011 at 12:06 PM

Hello all, I posted a similar question in the Napa forum, but my boyfriend and I (in our late 20's) are visiting both Napa and Sonoma in late August. He has been to Sonoma once before for a wedding, but it will be my first time there. We are narrowing down places to stay before diving into planning things to do. We've been looking at both vacation rentals, and hotels. We will have a rental car but also like to walk or bike if we can to avoid relying solely on the car. I've read mixed reviews about many places to stay in Sonoma, and was hoping to get some input here. I'm looking for advice on areas of town to stay, as well as specific lodging suggestions. We've looked into: -A few places near Boyes Hot Springs, off Sonoma Hwy -A couple places near East Napa St and 8th St -El Dorado Hotel (From what I've read...Pros: great location; Cons: lots of noise and tight on space) -Bungalows 313 (seems like a nice option but again, I've read some great reviews, and some terrible...has anyone stayed here that can provide some insight?) -Les Petites Maisons We prefer to be in a relatively active area of town, and are big on food & wine (hence, the trip to wine country!) Any tips on nice (and not exceedingly expensive) areas/places to stay (and things to do/places to check out, since that would be my follow-up question) would be welcome and much appreciated. Thanks!

My wife and I will be in Sonoma County for two nights in July as part of a 10 day California trip. Can anyone recommend some wineries to visit, or restaurants? We will be staying in Petaluma but we will have a car and will probably spend most of one day driving throughout Sononma and Napa counties. We are not wine connoiseurs by any stretch of the imagination, but we have taken a few winery tours and enjoyed them (although we live in Maryland, where at last count there were a total of about 15 wineries in the state). We are looking for wineries that have a regular weekday tour and have moderatley priced wines. Also any restaurant recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any info provided.
