Hello, I have heard about a direct mini-bus from Solo to Cemoro Lawang. Does it sound possible ? Is there a way to get more information about it ? I found a cheap flight from Yogyakarta to Surubaya : can it be a good alternative ? Otherwise, would you know if the Solo area (including Candi Sukuh) can be visited as a day trip from Yogyakarta ?

Hello, Need some advice. Am planning to spend 3 nights & 4 days in Central Java. Following is the plan: Day 1- Arrive in Solo. See sights around Solo & go to Ketep Pass in the afternoon to see Merapi & other volcanoes. Proceed to Borobudur. Stay at Manohara Hotel Day 2- See Borobudur & other two temples (Mendut & Pawon) and proceed to Dieng Plateau mid morning. See Gedung Songo temples & leave for Jogja in the evening. Stay at one of the hotels in Jogja. Day 3- See Jogja & Parambanan temple in the morning. Go to Solo & see Candi Ceto & Candi Sukuh in the afternoon. Stay in one of the hotels in Solo Day 4- See palaces in Solo & return. I'm planning to hire a car for the 4 days. Is this itinerary do-able? I'm not too sure of the distance between Borobudur & Gedung Songo temples (can this be covered in 8 hours)? Any advice or recommendation would help. Cheers.

Hi all, I plan to visit Borobudur and the surrounding temples in Feb'06 and plan to use Jogja as my base. Have already got complimentary Air Asia tickets to touch down at Solo airport. Heard that Jogja is about 60km from Solo. Is there a direct taxi service from Solo airport to city centre of Jogja? Accomodation should be around Jln. Malioboro. Would it be difficult to hire a driver and car for sightseeing purposes? What is the going rate for a day's rental? Many thanks in advance.
Where is Solo and what's its Chinese name?
