I did some research many years ago and found the town of Tarpaigh on a very old map in a very old book. I haven't found it since. It was inland near Roscommon.

I just came across this. I am a Torpey in the US. I was told that my family came from a place near Sligo called Farnaharpy. This name in Irish means Ferrain O'Tarpaigh, but it was slurred for a long time. There is actually information on the families of Sligeach Jeanie

hi jeanie. im sure tarpey and torpey are both anglisized variations of o'tarpaigh. i've done some research and o'tarpaigh goes right back to the celts, a tribe called the erinnin.

It is now called Farnaharpy, Skreen, County Sligo. Ferrain O'Tarpaigh or land of O'Tarpaigh.
