    • Moulid Abu El-Haggag

      Luxor May 4, 2015 at 1:54 PM

I'll be in Luxor the first week in June (hot!) and came across some information about the Moulid of Abu El-Haggag. I understand that it's a huge celebration and, if I'm counting back from Ramadan correctly, it should occur about June 4. Does anyone know if that's correct? And is it something that I want to reconfigure my travel plans to Dendera and Abydos to see? Thanks

    • Egypt 2015 trip concerns

      Hurghada Apr 30, 2015 at 2:30 AM

Hello! Me and my boyfriend are planning to go on holiday to Hurghada in June 2015 but I’m a bit concerned about whether this is the best time to go to Egypt specially because we also want to visit the pyramids in Cairo. We are thinking of joining an excursion from Hurghada to Cairo by bus and according to what I read it’s 7 hours distance and I am a bit scared of what could happen during the journey.
Anyone who have been recently to Hurghada and Cairo can tell me if it is safe to visit? Did you witness the downsides of the political distress and protests?
Also, provided that we do go to Egypt in 2015 do you recommend buying activity packs from UK agencies or by contacting the local ones?
      Many Thanks!

Hi, we will arrive at 5 am on the first day and tour Cairo and fly to Luxor next day to do the typical 3 days Nile cruise and Aswan sightseeing on the 5th day.

1st day. Cairo ( Giza Plateau, Museum, Khan El Khalili)

2-4th day. Nile Cruise (East West Bank,Edfu, Kom Ombo)

5th day. Aswan sightseeing ( obelisk, Philae)

and for the last day we are leaving on 1:30am the next day, should we flight/sleeper train back to Cairo and do Memphis, Sakkara and the Citadel or go visit Abu Simbel from Aswan(leaving on 3:30am) and take 17:55 flight, arrive 19:20 on Cairo and wait at the airport?

      thank you!

    • Libyan desert Visa?

by Wodz Online Now Jan 11, 2010 at 1:07 PM

Obtaining a Visa for Libya is near impossible these days. I will be wandering the eastern desert and wish to wander the Libyan desert as well (and thats all.. no cities in Libya), do you think it is safe to do so without a Libyan Visa? The area is so far remote that I highly doubt it would be a problem but I would rather be safe. Even if I could apply for a Visa I would, of course, not have any valid proof of flights into Libya, hotels.. nothing of that sort since this is a different situation.

Does anyone have experience with this? I have to think that the majority of travels to Siwa also go to the Libyan/Great Sea desert... right?

      Any help is much appreciated!

    • Do any charter companies flying to Siwa?

by ciaoholly Online Now Apr 24, 2009 at 7:25 PM

      Hi,
Just learned there is a tiny commercial airport at Siwa for exporting local crafts. Does anyone know of a charter company that flies from Luxor, Cairo or Alexandria to/from Siwa? (not a pricey Lear Jet or anything, small prop plane maybe?) We'd love to visit Siwa but don't have the time on our trip for the 8 hr drive... Thanks

    • Road Siwa to Bahariya by camper

by l-pagani Online Now Oct 21, 2006 at 1:18 PM

We will be visiting Egypt next Spring by a standard camper (2x4 not 4x4). I cannot get proper information from the Egyptian travel agency which will accompany us regarding the status of the road Siwa to Bahariya,.i.e. whether it is or not feasible by camper (we will be a group of abt 10 rv). We understand 70 km are now paved, but waht about the remaining 300 km? We are accustomed to unpaved roads, but are unable to drive on sand. Is the road bottom hard or is it a sand track?? thank you for your help

      Short Desert trip

by Mr_Furious Online Now Dec 16, 2005 at 1:54 AM

Hi, In april I will visit Egypt and I would like to visit the desert and see it for myself.
I am mainly interested in landscapes with sanddunes and oasises with palm trees, exploring them a little... Basically the stereotypical image one has of a desert. I will only have 3-4 days. Where do you recommend me to go? Siwa sounds good but far out.
Are other places like Dakhla or Bahariyya also good for that typical desert trip or not.

      Who can help me?
      Thank you very much,
      Bert

There are 4 of us- going from Cairo to Alex (or Mersa) by train...one is a fluent Arabic speaker so will it be easy to find someone when we get there or can we arrange it ahead?
