      When churches are open?

      Palermo 5 hours ago

My experience taught me that it is almost impossible to get clear working schedule of churches in Italy. Common practice shows that they can be opened between 09:00 and 12:00 hrs. Usually I try to come between these hours and sometime it works. So, my question is:
Does anybody know when are open churches san Francesco D’Assisi, Santa Maria dello Spasimo, Church and Cloister Della Magione, Santa Trinita and other churches built before 1530?

Bus #389 from Palermo to Monreale

      Palermo May 14, 2015 at 7:26 AM

Dear travelers and especially citizens of Palermo,

Please, advise me, is bus #389 or 389P still transporting passengers from Piazza Indipendenza, Palermo to Cathedral at Monreale. Some people said me that this bus brings passengers only to foot of the hill but not transports to center of Monreale anymore. What is the real situation with that bus? Thank you in advance.

      Sincerely, Oleg

      Worth a visit or not?

      Taormina May 9, 2015 at 9:21 AM

I'm travelling with friends to Eastern Sicily on Wednesday 13th May. We have a pretty tight itinerary as we are only staying for 4 nights. However, we have one free day at the moment, and are considering a trip to Savoca - we do have a rental vehicle. Does anybody have any knowledge of Savoca - particularly somewhere that 7 of us could have a relaxing lunch?

Early Planning for Sicily - 2016

      Sicilia May 25, 2015 at 12:17 PM

I am starting the early planning for an 8-day trip to Sicily in April 2016. Roughly 4-days on the west and 4-days on the east. We have climbed to the top of Mount Etna before, so we do not need to do that. We are interested in the history, the ruins, wine, olive oil, and pistachios.

      Rough Plans
      • Agrigento – Ruins
      a. Trapani – Salt pans and museum
      b. Erice – Funicular to top of mountain
      • Palermo – Hub city for four days.
      • Corleone – just because – CIDMA museum
      • Marsala – Possible, not sure
      • Segesta – Ruins
      • Eryx – Ruins
      • Taormina – Second hub city for three days.
      • Catania – Last city, fly home.
      • Olive Oil Farm – Azienda Agricola Mandranova near Palma di Montechiaro
      • Pistachio – Tour farm, possibly near Bronte
      • Winery or two

Any other thoughts? Did I miss anything? Tour guides? Thanks for any tips or suggestions.

      Photos in museums of Palermo

      Palermo Yesterday

According to the law adopted on June 1 2014, known as "Decreto Franceschini" because of Italian Minister of Culture Dario Franceskini, visitors became allowed to take noncommercial photos without flash light and tripod in all state and municipal museums of Italy.
      My questions are:
      1. Is this low is still active?
      2. Are visitors allowed to take noncommercial photos in museums of Palermo?
      3. In Cathedrals of Palermo and Monreale, in Diocesan Museum (belongs to Diocese)?

      Thank you in advance. Oleg

by LenicaS Online Now Sep 22, 2014 at 3:04 AM

We will stay in Ortigia for a week and we are planning to rent a car. Usually on our Europe trips we rent cars from hotel we're staying and it can be done without using a credit card. Now, we are staying in private studio and there isn't an option of renting car, so could you advise me on such places where to rent a car. Also I am aware that Ortigia is mostly inaccessible for parking, what is the cheapest option to park there or nearby?

Hello, we're flying into Catalonia airport for two weeks in September, its between Taormina and Syracuse at the moment where we are staying. I know where is best in Taormina but could somebody please advise on where is best to stay in Syracuse. We will be looking at self catering accommodation, so we don't need advice there just an area to base ourselves. We have two young children 2 and 3 so want to be walking distance from the night time entertainment. All we really need is a good choice of restaurants, i would like at least to be able to choose a different one each night.
      Thanks for any advice

I am interested in the Mediterranean Studies campus in Siracusa and am wondering if this is a good city for a college-aged person and not just a touristy city in terms of how friendly the locals are, nightlife, amount of things to do, etc.
