Arriving Singapore airport 5:15am from Australia, mid November. Hotel room at Park Royal on Beach road most likely will not be available until midday at best. Looking for a good place for breakfast outside hotel, and then somewhere to visit for 2 or 3 hours nearby. Could be shops, nearby attractions etc. We are a group of 10, retired couples. Appreciate all suggestions.
According to my experiences in Singapore, usually hotel rooms will be available upon your arrival even when it's that early, provided they know your arrival time. Serves are still written in capitol letters in Singapore:-) Nothing much will be opened at that time of the day. Good luck.

the lau pa sat hawker centre will be open. it's quite handy to Raffles Square MRT. The MRT starts off about 6.

It will take some time to go through the customs and take your luggage so you will be good to go from the airport around 6 pm. As you will be a group of 10. It may not be very convenient to go with MRT if you have lots of luggage, but it's still the cheapest choice. Otherwise you have to rely on taxi. Around 6:30 you should be at your hotel. You can drop your luggage and try if they let the rooms. If they don't, it's easy to have breakfast at Lau Pa Sat. You can also go to Bugis. Take a look at my Singapore page for many useful tips. Enjoy your stay :)

I have often had a stopover in Singapore, admittedly not at your Hotel, but I found once reception knew that you were there they made rooms available fairly quickly. Failing this, the Singapore Zoo gets rave reviews, with mornings being a little less humid than afternoon this could be an option.

Yes we arrived at something like 2am....We had pre arranged bus transport as had others....small airport pick up bus and our hotel had us in our room shortly after our arrival. Just wondered who made the hotel booking ....has the hotel been asked if you can go in when you arrive? I have a memory that some hotels in Singapore cater for out of hours arrivals, Marg

We booked with Flight Centre, one of our group arranged everything personally with Flight Centre and as individuals FC emailed us details, tickets , vouchers etc. I contacted Flight Centre representative re early room entry, reply was the hotel would arrange if we were willing to pay200 room rate.I doubt if they contacted Park Royal, and hopefully we will obtain rooms prior to 2pm. Thanks for the replies, hopefully we might obtain early entry for our 3 night stay.

If some of your group get allocated a room earlier than others maybe you could at least rest in your friends, rooms, there will be armchairs and maybe a sofa and airconditioning!! In my experience after a night time flight, you may just want to have a sleep. I remember an early morning landing in London with no possibility of a room until 2p.m. and dragging myself around Oxford Street like a zombie. The other possibility is if your Hotel has a complimentary guest suite, the Hotel I use has this and, while you can,t go to bed, there is a bathroom and very comfortable lounge with tea and coffee facilities, this is made available for guests who have either checked out or no room available yet.

Around the vicinity of the hotel are many food outlets where you can have a nice breakfast including Beach Road Food Centre (where the locals have their meals, something referred to as Golden Mile Food Centre), Kampong Glam/Arab Street (directly across the road from the hotel), Liang Seah Street. For shopping, you can try nearby locations like: Golden Mile Shopping Centre (frequented by Thais) Bugis Junction (end of Liang Seah Street) The Plaza (adjoing the Park Royal hotel - preferrably after 10:00am) For sightseeing nearby: Sultan Mosque (next to kampong Glam/Arab Street) Those of the places within walking distance of the hotel.

Thanks for the replies. Good advice will mean we will not have to sit around hotel foyer waiting for room availability.
