We have been to Singapore a few times now and have found the Rendezvous Hotel to be as good as you get. It is reasonably priced and is in a great location, Less than 5 minute walk and you are in the shopping action of Orchard Rd, about the same walking distance to Dhoby Ghaut MRT station from where you can go to almost anywhere on the island. We also enjoy the tastes of the food in 'Little India" which is also only a short walk. The hotel is on Bras Basah Rd which runs off Orchard Rd.

I've been at RPlaza at Scott, I did not find (4D/3N I stayed there) very helpfull people, sure they give help, mostly in a rude way (like if undertitled it is written, don't annoy me). Last morning, asking for a taxi for airport, they just said "go to the street and stop one" ?????!!!!???!!! I'll be in Singapore in a few week, I'll try Ibis, it's opened this year and it seems not too overpriced at all.

It really depends what you mean by 'reasonable price'. The hotels in S'pore are offering discounts at the moment so you can get good deals even at the best hotels. Have a look at some of our hotel tips here on VT for some ideas. Getting around is cheap and easy, by the underground (MRT), bus or taxi.

Dont laugh but we stayed at the 'royal peacock" hotel smack bang in the centre of chinatown. It was AUD100 a night for two and although basic was very clean. Shower hmmm but serviceable. It was great for cheap, clean accommodation. if you want to pay more try peninsula excelsior, its opposite city hall mrt station and offers 3-4* accom/ Royal peacock 500m from chinatown and 500m from outram mrt station.

In May we stayed 8 nights at Swissotel Merchant Court at Clarke quay on the edge of Chinatown and 3 minutes walk to MRT. excellent swimming pool, nice rooms but I thought restaurant was expensive. Plenty of restaurants at Central Shopping Centre directly opposite, or try Clarke quay in the evening. Photos on my Singapore page. Good Luck, Mike
