Anyone been to Tong Shui Cafe in Zion Road?

by bpacker Online Now Mar 5, 2006 at 11:00 PM

Hi, I thought I should ask the ever-popular food question over here. Has anybody tried this place yet? I checked it out the last time and thought that the interior looked pretty funky. How's the quality of the food though? I hope it's comparable to the other cha chan teng I went to in siglap. bpacker

the concept of this place is good but the pricing kills! one of the night we had about 13 of us - the final bill came to us was168+! to me, their drinks are on the high side in pricing. the food wise is barely so-so and frankly not worth paying for it

Omigawd, that breaks my heart. Looks like the one in siglap is more reasonably priced then! Ok, will only go to that zion cha chan teng only place for desserts. Any recommended eats? The one in siglap has "bo lo" buns that are really yummy and the mango-pomelo smoothie is delish ( better than the crap ones in a famous shop in orchard road ). The french toast with peanut butter is also gooood. b

LOL, when are u returning? Your name keeps popping out at every meet leh. No worries, we can organise some eastie vt meet, am thinking of some decadent food tour as usual. And since you asked for other nice places, these were the joints i am thinking of, in the east of course.. all these joints are on the same stretch of road.. 1)5* chicken rice, famous for its zingy garlicky chilli sauce 2)ampang yong tau hu - yummy pork stuffed into beancurd 3)pandan rice dumplings - fragrant pork dumplings 4)katong laksa with lots of blood cockles Sorry, cha chan teng means 'tea house' in cantonese, 茶餐厅 in mandarin - very common in hk, a shop that sells hot snacks, desserts and of course, tea. Dunno about the zion rd joint, will check it out on 24 mar when SPW arrives from Melbourne ( i'm organising a meet there). cheerios, glen

Andy I think Spring Court has shifted to Chinatown (just opp Chinatown point). They were offering this0.77 Peking Duck for a while. Yummy, yummy. And talking about ducks, I forgot all about the roast duck restaurant beside ampang yong tau hu. Mei Yuan's duck is always crisp on the outside, succulent on the inside, good with plum sauce. Yum. Hmm San Marino eludes me. Did they use to sell alcohol-infused tiramisu beside the prawn noodle shop? The cake shop has closed and in its place is the hk cafe. Yeah....al forno has the best pizzas and bread..so you're back on 5th april? glen

ah i think i've seen the new spring court at china town... hmm is the roast duck u mentioned has a few 6s in their signboard? and yup! the san marino's tiramisu is one of the most affordable authentic ones i could find! and yep! i think it's beside the famous prawn noodle stall. there's this chin mei chin or something confectionery... the old school cake shop near holy family church... i love their very simple but very yummy pastries! is it still there? i suppose it's still a fave with the churchgoers! and i think the cheesecake cafe in siglap is pretty awful. overpriced for the quality! the cheesecake factory (they have an outlet here in waikiki! and many more in the rest of US) has the best cheesecakes i've tried! their godiva chocolate cheesecake is sinfully decadent!

i love the cheng tang at bedok corner. the queue is as long as the hokkien mee. love the sambal sting ray from the malay stall. Joo chiat has lots of gd food too ;p I am going to The Line again 2 weeks later ;p East has lots of gd food concentrating in one area. Me from South will drive all the way to east to eat prawn noodles ;p We wanted to go tang shui the last time but it was very crowded. So maybe consider making a booking just b4 we head to Zion for prawn noodles or char kway teow ;p
