due to the heat, but in Malaysia it is not really seen much, is Singapore the same. We are used to the heat as we live in Queensland Aust and have travelled often throughout asia. Just not real sure about Singapore are flip flops (thongs) ok??

      Hi fellow VTs

I plan to visit Singapore for 3D2N this late April. I have sort through interesting places to go in Singapore. Singapore zoo, USS, Singapore Botanic Garden are on my top list. I'll stay in a hostel. Please suggest how much money to spend (if you could advise me with budget meals and MRT average fare as well) for that 3D2N.

      Thanks for your help.

Buying Tickets and Cell Phone Options?

by spachick Online Now Mar 30, 2013 at 8:29 PM

My husband and I from the DC area are celebrating our 10th Anniversary this year.
We would like to leave for Singapore (on the East Coast) on Dec 28 and return around Jan 10th.
When would be the best time this year to purchase tickets?
We understand that using our Verizon Iphones would be ridiculously expensive while there, even with their international plan?
How do you you suggest for us to communicate with each other while we are there, if we need to get in touch with each other, if for some reason during our stay we have separate itineraries?
      Any advice would be great.
      Thx

I'm sure we will be wide awake as we will still be on US time. Not sure it will be worth it to get a cheap hotel, but also don't feel like lugging around our luggage. Any suggestions?

Do all rooms now have bathrooms that you can see into from bedrooms. Just stayed in a deluxe balcony room that had a semi transparent glass wall and you could see straight into the shower area. This was not the case before the renovations. Can anyone advise which rooms have more private bathrooms.
      Thanks, Denise

Any suggestions for decent hotels in serangoon area ?

by loose_motion Online Now Feb 28, 2013 at 4:21 PM

I am going to be in Singapore for 3-4 days from the 19th of march to the 22nd morning . This is my 7th trip there and this time I want to stay in the Serangoon area ( near Mustafa ) . Online searches for decent hotels havn't resulted in much . Fortuna which is one of the better ones in the area has a cockroach problem so that's out !!! I want to finalize one with WIFI in rooms , breakfast and a swimming pool .
Going with 3 adults and a 4 year old . Can I get something near Mustafa or head back to orchard rd ? Orchard has some decent options for about US$220 per night . thanks

    • Filling in the D/E card, day trip to Johor

by friedcarrots Online Now Feb 24, 2013 at 12:31 PM

I have a question regarding the D/E card. On the card visitors are asked to fill in the "Next City/Port of Disembarkation After Singapore" and the "Length of Stay in Days" and present the card to the immigration officer when first arriving in Singapore.

I plan to stay in Singapore for a week and continue on to Sydney, Australia. If I during my stay in Singapore decide to make a brief day trip to Johor Bahru, what should I write in these fields?

Should I write "Sydney" and "07 Days" even if I in this case will temporarily leave Singapore? In the case that I write "Johor Bahru" and some shorter period - but decide to stay the whole week in Singapore - it could be regarded as overstaying (= serious trouble), am I right?

(I don't need a visa to enter either Singapore or Malaysia) Strange that I can't find anything about this, even if there is probably a lot of people who don't visit southeast Asia that often and would like to add another country to their travel experience.
