If you can leave your luggage at Changi Airport, take a taxi. It might be quicker. Shop around Orchard Road. Clarke Quay is great for a riverside meal. Personally, I would stay at Changi Airport. It has a wonderful selection of shopping, free internet, free movies, spa treatments (leg massage?) and there are 'quiet' lounges where you could catch some sleep. Its the best airport in the world (in my opinion)

Taxi is the only realistic option as the airport is a good 40 minute drive from downtown singapore. And like the previous poster i would recommend the area atound Clark Quay as a good place to visit as it's scenic, has nice cafes and nearby shopping malls. But if you are just after shopping then stay at the airport as changi has some of the best airport shopping in the world, if not the best.

You can, also, consider taking a free airport organised tour. changiairport.com/at-changi/...

I agree with Lynne. Stay at the airport hotel, get some sleep/rest and hope to avoid jetlag! David

You could take the MRT from Changi Airport to City Hall Station. It takes 45 minutes each way. It is a great way to see Singapore, it will cost you around S$2 each way. From City Hall Station, you can shop in Raffle Shopping Mall, than walk down the underground Shopping Mall, City Link. Follow the signboard that lead you to Esplanade. Enjoy Esplanade, than take the MRT to Promenada MRT Station, 1 stop. You can walk from the station to cross the Helix Bridge.. than... you will see the beautiful Marina Bay. Walk toward south of Marina Bay, you will see Marina Bay Sand.. than it depends how much time you have ! then take MRT at the Marina Bay Station,--- > take the MRT to City Hall, than transfer to green line back to the Airport. If you don't stop too long on each spot, you should be able to make it within 6 hours time. It depends what you want to see and do... the bottom line is the MRT is wonderful. Fast, cheap, simply efficient! Orchard road is another great area for shopping.

You can do a lot in 8 hours since Singapore is so small. I would recommend taking a taxi of course as you have limited time, straight into Orchard Road, the heart of the city. Preferably Orchard Ion one of our newsest and biggest malls. You probably have some time to expereince some shopping and Singaporean food. Theres a good article on the best places to shop in Orchard over here thesmartlocal.com/home/about...
