Its much easier if you just hop into a cab. Takes about 15-20 mins. If your near the train station, its much cheaper and you'll be there in less than 30 mins. Hope this helps! :)

I would not have encouraged the Ruby. It is deep in the heart of the red light district. the Emerald is at the fringes of the district and would only have been slightly more expensive. You will easily get a cab on Sims Rd. To Clarke quay but it can get hard to get a cab out of Clarke Quay unless you have a local sim card and can call your own. I have often caught a cab near the entry of the Merchant Court Hotel. The nearest MRT station to the Ruby is Aljunied, at least a15 min. Walk. Myself I would get off atCity Hall and just walk to Clarke Quay.

The easiest way is to take a taxi ride to Clarke Quay. No problem getting another back to the hotel.

Wouldn't recommend staying in Geylang. It is easy to move around in Singapore being a small island. Taxis are expensive. Ask hotel reception how to get to Clarke Quay. Good place to go to. Or you can book into hostel which are reasonably cheap and clean.

since your nick suggests a shoestring traveler, the bus service would be worth a try. ruby is located near aljunied mrt, so taking the MRT would be the cheapest mode of transportation. If you're planning to head back to the hotel after midnight, you've got to take a cab as the train service might've already ended. Note that after midnight there's a 50% surcharge on top of your distance-based fare. it'll probably cost you about12 -15 depending on traffic. Cheers!
