      Nepal and Trekking lite

      Nepal Jul 17, 2014 at 4:12 AM

We (wife and I) are in the middle of doing some travel planning into Southern Asia this fall. While we are well travelled, this will be our first time in the area. Weve already made arrangements to visit some of the less travelled areas (Bhutan and North-East States of India), as well as hitting some of the more typical spots in India. Nicely said, we will be in the Himalayas for part of the time (and we've been there before as far as EBC in Tibet about 10 years ago).

One option we are considering is spending up to a couple of weeks (14 days including the days we fly in and out of Kathmandu) doing some trekking; the second and third week in November. My foot is still not 100% post-surgery (and likley never will be 100%), so I do have to take care to avoid injury. We'ed probably want to spend a couple of days in Kathmandu, exploring and setting up the trek (arranging for a guide and porter at the trekking office, as well as transportation to and from the trailhead). This means we are probably looking at about a week to 10 days of trekking. Other than just seeing the place; #1 objective is seeing people, landscapes to photograph.

Any thoughts as to which areas might be suitable for the; recommendations for accomodations in Tibet clothing for that time of year, etc. Well broken in, sturdy hiking boots, walking sticks, etc. Thoughts on tent trekking versus staying at local accomodation (might be leaning that way as this would help out the locals more), etc.

    • Volunteering as a teacher once in Nepal

      Nepal Jul 11, 2014 at 8:27 AM

I'm planning on heading out to Nepal November time to explore and offer my services as an English teacher wherever I may end up. I don't want to pre-pay one of these companies to do so and wondered whether there are many opportunites to walk into schoools/communities and volunteer without pre-organising. Is this possible?

Thanks in advance for any info :)

    • trekking from Simikot to Mount Kailash

by cathlechat Online Now May 18, 2007 at 12:02 AM

I plan to go to Mount Kailash via Simikot, ideally in July. I know this corresponds to the mansoon season, which implies frequent landslides and stones falling down.

However, seeing that Humla is pretty high and located in the far-west of Nepal, I wonder if rains will also affect this part of the country. For example, mansoon hardly reach Mustang. Is it the same for North-West of Humla district?
