Hello, Myself and 2 friends are planning a trip to Crimea (Sevastopol) for a few days to a week. We are planning to leave soon and wanted to know the best options (cheapest too) for getting to Sevastopol. We are traveling from Holland / The Netherlands and currently considering a route via Bucharest. Is there a boat from Romania to Crimea (Sevastopol)? Also, any bus or train lines? Thanks for any information. R
Meanwhile no boats from Romania. The boat goes from Varna to Odessa and to Novorossijsk. And it is not the cheapest way. The cheapest way will be by bus (but it's too long). If you go to Bucharest, there you can get either a bus or train to Kiev. And then Sevastopol etc. But be aware that Crimea in summer is very popular among Russian and Ucranian tourists, so it's quite a problem to get cheep tickets there.

One lesser known route is a bit more direct, so if you wanted to go through Romania it might not be for you. There is a direct flight from Cologne, Germany to Simferopol, Ukraine on Windrose airlines (www.windrose.aero), which flies about twice a week. Call their office in Kiev for more information - +380 44 492 97 87. Latest prices are around 400 euros round trip. Once you get to Simferopol, your travel options are almost endless - train, bus, marshrutka (small van), even taxi.

Wizz Air is starting services to/within Ukraine this coming month. You may want to have a look at my transportation pages.
