I am thinking to visit Angkor Wat during the first week of December 2012 where there will be an marathon. Are the temples still open during the marathon? Is it not a good time to travel? Grateful to have any advice. Thanks!
The participants are limited to 5,800 which is not a large number. From my experience during such events the streets will be closed for no more than half a day( In my town there is a yearly event with more runners). The run starts at 6.30am on the 2nd DEC, a little later than it starts in my town so i really expect it all to be over by 10 am. If you are in Siem Reap that day just take a day trip to Ton Le Sap. Good luck

I was there at the same time a few years ago. It did not stop my friend and I from seeing sunrise at Angkor Wat and proceeding on to Ta Prohm (rather than going into Angkor). It was slightly challenging getting back to our hotel for breakfast but our tuk-tuk driver did an excellent job and got us there with time to spare.
