Route from Thailand to Cambodia...Plz HELP!!

Hi Members! I have to choose one of the following but am still confused. Planning to travel either from Bangkok to Siem Reap(CAMBODIA) or from Bangkok to Vientiane(LAOS) by road/train alone and then take a flight. The aim is to see scenery landscape ant shoot some pics. Travelling the first time so need your advise. What way is more comfortable and SAFE? Prefer to travel by train. Have still 10 days to think:) so fast replies will be appreciated!
