Just updated the accommodation options for Sibiu meeting - choose from four 4 stars hotels, one boutique hotel and one budget two star hotel.

Of course the hotel is good for a woman traveling solo. It's no hostel if you meant that, no bunk beds or anything :)

Sibiu is relaxed and laid back, not crowded like Bucharest. You'll love it :) And you can stay all night long in the city, no one will bother you, people are on streets way after the sun is down, with children and all.

May-June is perhaps the best time to visit so the hotels are full capacity that time. That budget hotel particularly could be because of the nice price. So I'd say one month before.

Yes, Codrutz is right UnaS. You won't have any problems here if you travel alone. I live in Sibiu and, if you are decided to stay at a certain hotel i can ask them about the booking issues.

This is an opened invitation to everyone who needs infos or any kind of help in the coming meeting!! I salut you all and hope to see here as here as many vt's as possible ;-)

Thanks Codrutz. I see on your Sibiu page that you also mention the Ioana. Do either of these places have a lift? I do like the idea of a smaller place, but not necessary.

Casa Ioana has one room on the base floor, right next to the reception desk, the rest are up the stairs. About the Sonne hotel I don't know but we can ask. Though Casa Ioana is almost double the price than Sonne.

Where did I say that? Hotel Sonne is 30 EUR/room and Casa Ioana is around 50EUR/room. Currently, because I don't know if the prices will remain until June next year.

    Okay then - my interpretation.

The tips say Hotel Sonne US$20 - 40 and the /Casa Ioana US$40-80.

So, I didn't see it as double. Your explanation is clear.

    Much appreciated.

I haven't looked at all the hotels but this seems like a good selection to choose from.

I booked my accommodation in Karlsruhe and Cascais in February and will probably do the same for next year's meets in Vienna, Krakow and Sibiu.

Whatever's reasonably priced, clean and convenient to the centre will suit me. I'm not too choosy.

My plans are 'aspirational ' Mariel but yes, I hope to do it all.

Vienna is one of my favourite place in the world and I really want to do the trip to the Wacahau valley and catch the boat along the Danube to Bratislava.Plus time to enjoy the city and revisit old haunts.

Krakow for the meet and all the usual fun and then the adventure of Lviv and Sibiu, both new countries and destinations for me.

Yes, as Euromeets go, this one is presenting superb travel opportunities and I can't afford to miss any of them.

Vienna is indeed a lovely city (can't comment on the others because I haven't been there but I'm sure they're all lovely as well), especially with the VT'ers. Michael gave us a walking tour and after that we met for dinner and it definitely made a difference on our trip.

I had to withdraw my name from the meets because it looks like I won't be able to make it, in case the organizers need a steady number of attendees for when booking. However, there's still time left and everything could change.

I will mention for those wanting to go further from Sibiu to the capital of Romania, Bucharest, means of transport Sibiu - Bucharest:

    1) by plane: Tarom - on June 6th (currently no flights on June 5th) from 22:30, 50 minutes flight - this is recommended

    2) by train: usually 4 hours and 1/2 but currently there is some disruption, probably restrictions will be lifted until June 2010

    3) by bus: about 5 hours, a few buses / day .. some stops in 2-3 cities to pick/drop passengers

So, if enough people were to continue on to Bucharest, any chance of getting a bus or getting together and agreeing on a public bus to take?

Personally I need to get my flight into Europe sorted out. If I fly back from Bucharest things get nasty because I'll have to go thru CDG with a short layover, this is not good - so I'm thinking of flying back from Munich or the like. Or just skip Bucharest - don't know - but most flights out of Sibui go thru Bucharest.

Thank you Petruta. It might be more practical to try a regularly scheduled bus - it is expensive to rent a bus unless it's pretty full, but perhaps we could check both. I'm OK with the expense, my only concern is not incurring an expense for anyone else.
