Shimla in 1st week of June, 2011

by pradeepkr14 Online Now Aug 29, 2011 at 3:29 AM

Hi,
I will be visiting Shimla, Manali and Dharmasala in the 1st week of June for 10/12 days for my honeymoon. Can anyone please suggest how should I plan my trip? What are the must-sees in these places? How to travel in and around these places without burning a hole in your pocket? Good safe hotel/cottage options in the range of Rs 1000-1500.

Thanks a ton in advance.

the range that you have suggested is a bit difficult to match. however check with Raju's cottage in Goshaini which is near Manali. It is one of the best places that I have stayed and its a clean homestay with the best food u can imagine and the natural beauty around is to be seen to be believed.
in dharmshala, u should visit the Norbulinka monastry where traditional tibetian arts are protected and preserved n taught in the authentic way. it is the cleanest place in dharamsala which is otherwise not such a clean place!mcleodganj is nice for a day's visit. but be prepared for unclean tibetian settlements and rude tibetians!! they do not like indians much since they usually get whites who visit these places into paying more for the things that they sell.
sorry i cannot advice on places of stay in the other two places within your budget.
hope you have a good trip,

Perhaps, you mean 2012. Try out Chail instead of Shimla for your honeymoon. Haven't put up my Dharamsala page though I'd been there quite some time ago, but may I suggest the following:

    A suggested itinerary is:

    Day 1: McLeod Ganj
    1. War Memorial
    2. Kangra Art Museum
    3. Tibetean Handicrafts Centre - upstairs; wooden handicrafts items; carpets
    4. Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA)
    5. Bhagsu Nag Temple of Lord Shiva
    6.. Tsuglagkhang Complex
    7. Church of St. John in the Wilderness
    8. Diptse Chokling Monastry

    Day 2:
    1. Shakti Peet Jwalamukhi Temple
    2. Kangra Fort (Nagarkot Fort)
    3. Temple of Chamunda Devi
    4. Palampur - tea estate and breath-taking view of the Dhauladhar snow-capped mountains

    Day 3:
    1. Narbulingka Institute - Tibetean cafe, doll’s museum, guest house, golden coloured prayer wheels
    2. Market - Stupa and red and golden-coloured prayer wheels
    3. Interesting shops selling Tibetean handicrafts

    Hi Vpas,

Thanks for your suggestions. Would you mind suggesting me some more options if I stretch my budget to say Rs 2,000?

    Thanks and take care
