I am off to Shetland mid June. I am visiting some people, but am determined to do some exploring. Unst & Lerwick are definitley on the agenda. Anyone got any recommendations for 'Must Sees' in Shetland, or know of anything special going on at this time?
Jarlshof is worth a look (unless you've been to Orkney as it doesn't really compare with the likes of Skara Brae).

That was a good start, I am actually going mid July! Anyway thanks gents, your pages look good (unlike mine). Both suggestions good and will probably be used. However I was already planning to go to both Lerwick and Sumburgh. Apart from Unst, is there any other corners of Shetland worth visiting? Where are the most spectacular cliffs for example? Cliffs? Well there's a small island which is a bird sanctuary which is a very pleasant place to spend a couple of hours if the weather is fine. I forget what it's called though. Just off the eastern coast of the mainland (meaning the Shetland mainland of course!) if I remember correctly, but it was a long time ago.

I will hopefully have a Shetlands page up before you go. I don't remember any great cliffs but we had a lot of fun island hopping in a Mini we rented. Lerwick is a good town to base yourself but in all honesty there isn't a lot to see in terms of castles or museums. We did enjoy our week there but I thought a week was long enough .

Take the trip to the island of Mousa (crossings run by Tom Jamieson from Leebotten, Sandwick) - visit the pictish broch (castle) and walk over to the lagoon on the east side where the seals rest (take care that the terns nesting on the shell-sand beach there don't attack you). Climb Ronas hill, visit Ronas Voe for pink granite beaches. Visit Maywick beach. Walk from Sandwick to the west side (West Banks and Deepdale)over the moors. Walk to the top of Fitfull Head via Noss. Visit Eshaness. Visit Fethaland (then walk west along north coast of mainland to the deserted whaling station at ?Uyea. It will be 24 hours of daylight - bring a sleep mask if that upsets you.

Thanks, plenty of ideas there. Esha Ness sounds appealling. I see that they featured it on 'Coast' the other day. I will be staying with friends in Whalsay, who have not lived there long. What is a Shetlander's opinion of this island?
