has anybody any information about unst in the shetland isles, and which are the closest islands to it. How do we travel there from South Australia? thanks for your info. Pat
Not sure about Unst, but to get there, you may want to take the ferry from Aberdeen- http://www.northlinkferries.co.uk/ So I guess you'll fly to London and transfer up to here. Otherwise you may be able to get a flight from Aberdeen Dyce Airport. Jem

To get there, like Jem says. To get around on Shetland, there are inter island ferries. A good site on shetland with pointers to those ferries and much more: www.visitshetland.com ...or you can do like I did and travel about with a sailboat :-)

To get to Unst... You can fly from Scotland - Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, etc. - to Sumburgh airport in Shetland. Any travel agent can organise that for you but its expensive, cheapest flight I have ever had was £98 Glasgow - Shetland, usually its a lot more. Cheaper alternative is to get to Aberdeen then take the Northlink ferry up to Lerwick, Shetland - it takes about 12 hours though (overnight). Once you get to Shetland there are inter-island ferries so try http://www.shetland.gov.uk/ferries/ for timetables and costs. For general info try http://www.visitshetland.com/ or http://www.shetlandtourism.com/ Hope this helps :)

Unst is the most northern island in Shetland. You will need to take a ferry from the South Mainland first to Yell, then onto Unst. Check out Muness Castle, "THE MOST NORTHERLY CASTLE IN THE BRITISH ISLES". Also, get your postcards hand canceled with "The most northerly Post Office in the UK" in Baltasound, Unst. SEESHETLAND TOURS will take you there from Lerwick ( http://www.seeshetland.shetland.co.uk/ ) NorthLink Ferries provides regular service from Aberdeen to Lerwick( http://www.northlinkferries.co.uk/ ) There are regular flights from various UK airports to the Shetland airport (LSI) on the South Mainland at Sumburgh. I recommend the Sumburgh Hotel (sumburgh-hotel.shetland.co.u...). There is regular bus service from the Hotel, or Sumburgh Airport to Lerwick, & other locations. Check out: http://www.shetland.gov.uk/transport/ CHEERS!!
