Shenzhen

Hey guys,

I'm planning to visit a friend who lives in Longgang District, somewhere about 10 -15 walking minutes away from the MRT station (Longchang Square). I will take a GT train from Beijing to Shenzhen, but I'm a little confused how to get to my friend's place in a fast and cheap way.

Is there any direct Shenzhen-Fuzhou high speed rail? Is it very frequent each day? How long? Easy to buy the ticket on the spot? I might enter Shenzhen from HK so what's the best way from HK to Shenzhen to catch this rail? Thank you!

I want to travel from Xiamen to Macau so I will take the bus from Xiamen to Shenzhen and then ferry. Does anyone know where the Xiamen bus will arrive and how I get from the bus station to the port? thanks

Hi, I'm an Australian and I'm looking to head over the boarder into Shenzen for a day. I will be able to buy a visa at Lu Ho, however do I need Yuan or can I pay in HKD? If Yuan, is there an ATM available before the visa office (after leaving HK?). Do they issue a full sized sticker visa as per the usual chinese ones, or is it just a stamp? (I'm running out of pages in my passport!).

I'm staying at the Crowne Plaza in Longgang. Are there any western eating options there? For example, Burger King, Taco Time, Starbucks, Subway restaurant etc. Not really interested in the ubiquitous McDonald's and KFC. Thanks. Anyway Wal Marts in the area as well close to the hotel?

I think the ferry leaves around 0800, but every website I go to has different times. Does anyone one know the time of the first ferry from Shekou to Hong Kong Airport. Is there a site to sign up for a ticket? Usually I buy it at the hotel, but thought it might be worth trying to get it online. If you have not tried this ferry from Shenzhen, it really is worth trying. It departs on schedule. Many airlines have counters there, so you can check into your flight, give them your baggage, and just go to the plane when you get to HKG. Customs and Immigration take place at the ferry terminal!

I am stopping over in Shenzen for a day and not really in the mood for mall-hopping. If someone can help me decide the best place to pick up (chinese) souvenirs,that would be great. Hi, Like most people, am very confused with costs and procedures for obtaining a visa into Shenzhen via Lo Wu, esp as it appears to change constantly. I am a UK citizen but given the exorbitant fees applied against UK passport holders, am wondering whether i can pay a smaller fee if i just flash my HK ID at the border? What is the best and easiest way to get from Tsuen Wan to across the border into Shenzhen Bay. I have two suitcases that I will need to drag along so was wondering what it would cost to take a taxi versus the bus. I also read that the Shenzhen Bay checkpoint is only by vehicle, no train. I have 1 day to spend in Shenzhen. Is it better to go first to Windows of the World, or Splendid China or the Cultural Village. Which should I omit? I have two young kids to drag along. How many hours should I anticipate spending in Windows of the World? Thanks

I am beginning to feel less confident about a day of shopping in Shenzhen. There are 3 of us - me, my husband and our 17 yr old son. My boys are keen to visit the electronic stores in Huaqiangbei/SEG Electronics market. I've already changed my mind about shopping at Dongmen for fear of being robbed. We have travelled on trains and MTRs in Rome and so have good travel bags impregnated with metal cables and wire mesh lining and had no problems. How safe do you think we'll be travelling on the MTR from Luo Hu to Huaqiangbei and back, esp if carrying shopping bags? Perhaps we are safer just shopping at the border (even though I realise that prices will be higher here). I have looked at numerous forums and other websites and I repeat, am concerned for our safety.
