The best currency to use is always the legal currency of a country (i.e. Egyptian pounds). If you find places which accept other currency you can guarantee you are getting a poor exchange rate, so it makes sense to use the legal currency. Within your hotel/resort area/beach shorts/vest tops will be fine. But it does matter (imo) that you dress appropriately when visiting local towns/villages and so on, avoiding excessively-revealing clothing. It is just courtesy and respect for local customs. This is just my personal opinion.

Yes, use Egyptian pounds (L.E.) - ATMs are plentiful and are in different languages. You can use US, Euro or Sterling but you will lose on the exchange rate. Regarding dress - beach wear is OK at the resort but in the towns and Cairo it is best to dress a little more conservatively - I wear short loose sleeves (or a loose shirt over a top) and 3/4 pants - see my photo. It also a good idea to carry a scarf in case you wish to visit a mosque.

For the best exchange rate take £'s and change for LE(egyptian pounds)in resort, you will get at least 10% more than if you changed in the UK before you went and as the £ is very low against the LE at the moment you need all the help you can get.
