Visa?

by Kaysta Online Now Nov 17, 2008 at 9:46 AM

I booked to go to Sharm next September with my boyfriend, who is Spanish and holds a Spanish passport. When I told the travel agent that he holds a Spanish passport, she said 'You do know about the visa's etc' I said yes, thinking that she is meaning that if you go out of the Sinai you have to purchase a Visa to go to Cairo, Luxor etc. But now thinking of it...does she mean he needs a Visa to travel to Egypt? I thought it would be the same as its part of the Europeon Union. I know i should of rang the travel agents and ask, which i will if no one is knows of this. Thank you very muchhhh!!

All EU nationals need a visa to enter Egypt, apart from Sharm and a few other places (for up to 14 days only). egyptianconsulate.co.uk/visa... You'll need a visa if you are staying longer, or if you intend to make any trips away from those resorts.

Thanks - so its as i thought. We both only need to purchase a visa if we are traveling outside of the Sinai (Sharm). We are going for 14 days only. We will be travelling outside of Sharm to Cairo and Luxor. So we will purchase one anyway. I just thought she meant a different kind of Visa because my boyfriend holds a Spanish passport. Thank you! :)

Presumably he owns a Spanish-issued EU passport, not a 'Spanish' passport? I'd still be tempted to double-check with the Spanish or Egyptian embassy though (nearer next September, obviously, as things do change).

LOL!!!! No, Mr. Small, I don't think so either. But main message is that her boyfriend doesn't need a visa if he stays in the Sinai area. He does need though when going to nearby national parks like Ras Mohamed and when crossing the Suez Canal/Gulf of Suez. As said Visa to be bought for both of them at the airport of arrival for 15$ or the equivalent in either Euro's or GBP: about 12 Euro's or 10 GBP. Dora.
