Hi all, I'll be landing in Sharjah on an Air Arabia flight at around 7 am and have the whole day to while away until my connecting flight at 9pm. I plan to do a Dubai city tour. Can anyone advise what is the best way to do this. Join a tour or simply hire the taxi. I much prefer hiring a taxi since this gives me more flexibility. Can anyone advise how much would it cost to hire a taxi for a few hours around Dubai and then back to Sharjah airport? Thanks in advance

Hi Guys, I am planning to visit Dubai in April 07. However, last time I visited Dubai I found one could commute by cabbie to Sharjah. Of late, the flight tickets on Emirates / Gulf Air cost a bomb whereas to Sharjah is quite cheap. I am thus planning to visit Dubai for an exhibition via Sharjah. Could one write to me about the Visa formalities, please??? Siddhant

Hi again to all the VT Members, I have arrived into Sharjah on work. I am an Indian national. I am told net to net voice calls are banned in the UAE. Is it true? Hi, My wife and I are going to Sharjah from 29 Dec 2006 to 1 Jan 2007, for oue honeymoon. Apparently, we didn't check that 31 Dec is a big muslim holiday and was wondering if most of the shops will be closed during these periods? Another thing is that we like to experience any places that we go by ourselves instead of relying on travel agencies as we feel that getting anywhere is the best part. So what is the best place to go in Sharjah and Dubai. We are not really keen on beaches or shopping complexes, but would like to see the real Dubai, not the touristy side. Lastly, how much is the taxi fare from Dubai Airport to Sharjah? I don't mean those private car services, but metered taxis. We would really like to tour Sharjah and Dubai from a local point of view, like we did in Egypt where we met a local taxi driver who bring us around. Any help is appreciated.

I am considering to go to Sharja first 2 weeks in December. I´ve read that the weather is quite nice. But what about the water temperature? I do not like cool water (for me "cool" is everything below 25 degree C) and I do not like strong waves. This is the most important criteria for my choice of vacation place. I´ve never been to U.A.E. and therefore it would be nice to visit this country. But if I cannot swim in the ocean - then I prefer going to some other place...

Hi I have read through all your advise but just would like to check what is the most convenience mode of transport to work such as public transport or car pool...etc. What is the charges like... Despite of this, during the ramadan period, how are those working foreigners here to get their lunch & dinner..will there be available food court or local eating house to supply their needs. I visited Dubai in August. We had a very good deal staying at the Trade Centre hotel. It was in a good position not too far from the city. However we missed being so far from the beach at Jumeirah. (It was too expensive to stay in a beach hotel for two weeks) After visiting Sharjah I had the idea that the next time we came we should stay in a beach hotel in Sharjah. They were a lot cheaper than the hotels at Jumeirah and seem the same if not closer to Dubai. Would this be a good idea? Any views or reviews on the Sharjah hotels?
