Hi, Where can I buy animation / action figure in Shanghai?
Are there any places like Akihabara or Nagano in Japan where there are a lot of shops?
Also, do we need to bargain? (In Japan, we do not bargain...)
Thank you very much for your advices.
I hold an Australian passport. Can I visit Shanghai for a day only? I have return flight within 24 hours of arriving. Do I still need to apply for a visa before flying?
We are joining a tour in May but as we are arriving two days early we took pot luck on one of the hotels that the tour group use and booked Shaanxi Business Hotel, Jing'an District. We have now heard that our tour is starting from the Ramada Zhabei and our third and fourth nights in Shanghai will be there. So we are deliberating whether to amend our initial booking so we don't have to change hotels (two nights in each).
The first day of our free time we aim to check out People's Square, The Bund and go under the river to Pudong. The second day we want to get a bus from People's Square to Zhujiajiao. Then we would come back and change hotels to join the tour.
The Shaanxi looks a more central location but as we will be travelling for 3 weeks, maybe we should just go to the Ramada for all 4 nights.......
Any advice from people who know Shanghai well??!! Thanks.

I'm booked for a visit to Shanghai arriving 21 May. I'm flying Air Asia from Gold Coast, via KL.
I'm a bit nervous arriving at 23:45 and have requested my booked hotel (the Linhao) to provide their free shuttle service to pick me up.
Does anyone have experience of this situation? Are the hotel shuttle buses reliable?
Not having been to shanghai before, I don't want any hassles.
Thanks in advance...
Hello all. I am trying to organize a trip to Shanghai in practically zero time, as I will go next Saturday. I have few questions as I will be mostly walking around on my own there during daytime, my friend will be at work so I'll have to do the basic sightseeing on my own. So here i go with my bullet questions:
1. Safety: how safe is Shanghai for a western woman to walk around?
2. Transport: I dont speak Chinese, is the Metro comprehensive? I didnt have a problem with Tokyo metro, but I think here is a different story.
3. My friend uses cabs a lot. Are they safe? Arent they too expesnive?
4. 5 days for Shanghai, are they enough? What else would you suggest in the nearby area? Is Dunhuang (far away) a good choice for my second and final travel stop? Are there interesting alternatives around Shanghai?
thanks and I might be back with more questions

Thank you very much, Steve, Cgf, Tommy and Max! I'll travel from London to Australia via Shanghai with my daughter and it's possible for her to catch a cold before traveling, so we'll need some medicines with us.

I have 4 nights in Shanghai commencing 2 Jan. I recently tried to book bullet trains(1st class) to and from Hangzhou (West LAke) for Fri 4 Jan but it was all too hard. Will I be able to book a train on 3 Jan or on the day I want to go Or should I just go to Suzhou which may not be as popular? \ I'm staying at Grand Hyatt so maybe they can fix it for me??
Hello again, I live in the tropics so therefore do not have any warm clothing suitable for china's cold weather in February. Is there anywhere one could suggest where I might be able to purchase some eg a coat, and warm hat. I will be in china for a month so I might get some good use out of the purchase. I am a Caucasian so I have a bigger body / frame than the local Chinese. Thanks again.

I notices on Google Maps that there is a Quanjia convenience store just a block north and I wondered if they sold wine? Any other suggestions?

Hi everybody, I am thinking of going to Shanghai or Bejing for a year, and one of my concerns is the transportation system. Since Shanghai is a big and crowded city, do you think it is possible to get from one end of the town to the other in approximately one hour, assuming it is not rush hour? Taxi is also possible. Same question goes for Beijing. Would be really glad if anyone could help me out here.
