Hi all.. I will be in Shanghai for a month from 14 July to visit a friend who's working there. Would like to know what are the rough charges for visiting Japan and Korea via ferry from Shanghai.. And where other places I could visit besides Suzhou and Hangzhou? For example Hongkong?
Gee, you could even visit everywhere in China if you really wanted to, who cares? Do you mean daytrips, overnight trips or weekend trips, or what? A ferry to Osaka/Kobe would be in the region of 3000 RMB, I believe.

You can take a two day trip to Huang Shan (Yellow Mountain). By using the over night btrain, treat yourself to a Soft Sleeper, four bunks with a door. It isn't much more then the price of a hard sleeper (not really a hard bunk). There is a delighful man in Huang Shan that can help you out with any of your travel needs while there. Mr. Ho, I think was his name?????? Has a nice lil restaurant in town. China is a Great place to travel as long as you know some Mandarin, or have some one who can. Nanjing was fun, and had plenty to do, and see. Good Luck & have fun B-out

Japan & Korea are quite far from Shanghai despite being in Asia!!!!! As for Hong Kong, I got the train from HK to Shanghai a couple of years ago & it cost me around £40GBP (21 hours in hard sleeper - very good train & confortable), flights were over £100 one way. What about Beijing?? There loads to see there and do.
