Currency Matters

by DaveSamaroo Online Now Feb 25, 2013 at 10:01 AM

Hi: what currency should I predominantly take to Seychelles - euros/US? Should I also get a lot to the local currency (SCR) for city markets etc or are international currency widely accepted? Is it easy to change local currency back to international such as US when departing Seychelles? Thanks for any pointers on this.

If the Seychelles airport is anything like the Reunion and Mauritius islands, there will be plenty of money changers in the airport. In Mauritius lately there wasn't a great deal of difference between the airport changers and the local money changers.

Hi Dave, There are money changers at the airport but if you are travelling after hours ie: other than 0800-1600hrs i suggest you have a back up plan in case they are not open. Especially late at night or early morning. Euro rate 16.5 is more common than USD rate 11.91. Better you keep your receipts as you will need them to get your euros back. Euros / USDs cash are accepted in mosts shops, restaurants, car hires, boat charters etc although this may not apply for credit cards. Enjoy Seychelles!
