i am going to korea in late june to early july with a friend and was wondering whether there are families who rent out one room and mingle with us to experience the korean lifestyle?

Try these sites and i am sure you will find something. Just search the net and you will find many references to homestays, some run like a guest house but some families with only one room to rent. Don't forget that your host may not have too much time to mingle with you as the Koreans are hard working people and are usually pre-occupied with their work
