Hi, I am researching my property on the Plymouth Hoe but having a bit of trouble:( It was built in 1749 and stands as the first and largest house on Athenaeum Street. It was mentioned to of been built originally for a nobleman connected to St Andrews church and later rumored to of been used as the American Consulate during WW11, following that to be owed by Danny La Roue. These references where given to us by a man researching the area staying at the hotel across the road but he was just vacating so only spoke for a few mins. We also had a note left in the house from the previous owners when we purchased the property in 2009. The exterior of property was remodeled by Foulston during the development of Athenaeum Street in the 1800's and later the house was separated into 2 parts in 1903 (of which I purchased the main). The problem that I am having is that as the property is so old, I can not find out what the house was originally named or what the address would of been before Athenaeum Street was developed around it. I have found it may of been built on the site of ' Kingsdon Sq' from one old map also that it was not eligible to pay taxes from another map. I don't know the original owners details and can not find any pictures of any form dating back that far. I have been trying to collate the History with our son as a project for some time but the National Archives allude us. The property has been Grade II Listed and we think it's history really should be unearthed. We have also checked the census from 1851 and found the Baddeley family here who married in with the female Edgecumbes which to this day we still finde the Baddeley's and Edgecumbes very closely connected around the world. They also had alot of dealings in India. Please can anyone help at we have hit a wall ?
With kindest regards :) 30 Athenaeum Street PL1 2RQ
I will be arriving at Heathrow from Mexico City at 16:15 on Apr. 27 (T4), I need to catch a flight the following day to Istanbul (departing from T2) and I have two options: 6:55 or 11:55, I'd rather prefer to take the first one, to gain time before arriving to Turkey, my point is that I was planning to sleep at Yotel in T4 and then move the next day to T2 in the early morning, at what time does the Heathrow Express starts working? (or can I walk between these two terminals?), because I need to be at Turkish Airlines counter at 5:00 the latest, could someone help me please?, I could find any schedule online...
I am looking for an indoor attraction that will keep kids occupied for 4-5 hours outside London. As I have a rental car with me, want to look for attractions that is around 1 to 1.5 hours driving distance from London. I do not want attractions within London which I have already visited or I can do later (as I live in London). Please suggest.
Hi, myself and family (wife and 7yr old Daughter) are thinking of moving from a small Essex town to Norfolk and have seen several houses in upwell/outwell and we are coming to view some shortly. What is life like in the village ? Are the local people friendly especially to newcomers ? is the road running through the village very busy ? also are there nice quiet country walks close by ? thank you for taking the time to reply its very much appreciated. Regards Harry
Hi everyone, i am looking for an idiot proof guide for getting from the central bus station to terminal 4, bearing in mind i have never used the tube before etc, cheers in advance for all the help :)
Usually I've been using oyster, but this time I'll be there Wednesday-Friday and Sunday-Tuesday because I'll be spending the weekend in Oxford. Is it more sensible to buy money for oyster or a seven day travelcard? I'll be in zones 1 and 2 and I'll probably travel about 3-5 times per day.
I am in Birmingham for almost 2 days. I am an adult male and would love to get ideas of the best things to see in that short time? I prefer not going to regular museums, churches etc. Thought maybe different sights, views, nature etc. I definitely would go to Bournville to Cadbury World. Can anyone give me suggestions of what cannot be missed when in around Birmingham area?
I am interested in going to Harry Potter studio tour and found the official website listing price for family (2adults and 2 kids) is less than private tour operators. However, the only timeavailable from the official website is after 6pm - I wanted to know whether studio is worth a visit in the night and will I miss any outdoor settings. I youtubed some videos and found the place shown in dim light and with creepy sounds - which made me think that my younger daughter aged 5 who has some development delays may find it a problem. Anyone has views/advises on my two questions? My elder daughter who has read those 500 & 800 pages books was very excited to goto this place.
Hi, me & my wife are Manutd fans from Singapore. We planning visit UK nxt March 2015 and Manchester is a must stop for us. We travelling between 19th - 26th March and I realised that its Liverpool vs Manutd (21-03-15) at Anfield.
(1) Where can I buy the match day tickets ? The official website needs to ballot and i'm scared that we won't get the tickets there. I have read some forum recommending to buy it online but some say to be careful of scam.
(2) Any budget hotel or inn which is nearby Old Trafford. We arriving on Thurs (19th) so thought of going Old Trafford tour nxt day (Fri - 20th) followed by watching matchday football nxt day (Sat -21st)
(3) Since its away matches at Anfield, how long the journey from Manchester to Anfield and what mode of public transport should i take.
(4) Is it safe for us tourist to travel away to Anfield .. haha
Hope to get some helpful tips here.
Thanks in advance.
My friend is arriving at T2 (from Frankfurt) and departing for the US from T5 - different airlines and not through ticketed, as far as I can tell. So she's going to have to pick up her luggage, transfer terminals and check in. She only has two and a half hours to do so. And she's a US citizen, so presumably might be held up at immigration.
Is this an impossible schedule? As she's transiting the airport, is there some simpler quicker way to do this than going through immigration and customs as a normal arriving passenger would, before she transfers terminals?
Hi, I am a Philippine passport holder traveling to Heathrow airport, arriving at terminal 4 and with a connecting flight at terminal 5 to Toulouse, France. I am a Schengen Visa holder as well. I would just like to ask if I will still need a Direct Airside Transit Visa to transfer terminals even if I don't have baggage to claim upon arrival at terminal 4 since both bags are carry-ons. Tickets were booked separately though so I do not have a through-ticket. Thanks!
We will be staying near Queensway tube station. What is this area like in the evening. Are there many nice bars and restaurants about? How does it compare with Paddington in terms of quantity and quality of local bars and restaurants, safety walking about in the late evening, transport links to Victoria station. Many thanks in advance to anyone taking the time to respond?
My husband and I will be flying in to Gatwick and flying out of either Gatwick or Stansted in Mid May. We get in around 1:30pm and leave about that same time the following day. Where will be the easiest area to stay if we fly out of Gatwick and what's best if we fly out of Stansted? We are in our early 30's and in good physical condition, but will have backpacks so we don't want to have to walk too far from the train stations. We aren't too worried about doing too much sightseeing, but want to be in an area that is very walkable with good restaurants. We also want to be close to whatever transportation is easiest to get us back to the airport. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hi, I'm going UK from 8th April - 15th April. I need help in itinerary. Actually I've bought a matchday tickets to watch EPL between Manutd & Mancity at Old Trafford (11th April). We'll reach London on 8th April. So i thought to discover London on 8th & 9th. Then on the 10th move off to Manchester and stay there for 1day 1night till nxt day (matchday). But after match-day I am not sure on where to go next. I thought of discovering England especially the countryside. Any ideas where I should go next after Manchester. I have to be back in London by 15th April afternoon.
(1) London - I see that accommodation around London are quite expensive. Any place outskirt of London that is good to stay. Budget Inn budget hotel. Mode of transport
(2) Manchester - Stadium Tour, Match-day & discover Manchester.
(3) Mode of transport to other city/places.
Thanks in advance for your input.
Does anyone know anything about the London Pass card? Is it worth getting? If I have already an Oyster card, does the London Pass cover travel too? Or once I have an Oyster card, maybe it isn't worth getting the London Pass. Any feedback would be welcome. What are the "must see" attractions today in London?
Hi, we will leave from Dusseldorf with BA and arrive at T5 at 7.50AM.
We have to transfer to T3 to catch our flight to Dallas which leaves at 9.30 AM: also BA but operated by American Airlines.
When we booked this flight it said on the website this flight was operated by BA aswell, so we thought we could stay in T5, and 1 hour 40 min would be plenty off time!
However checking the BA website later we found out this flight is operated by AA, and we have to transfer to T3.
I'm very worried we won't make this transfer.
Would anyone be so kind to explain us, maybe step by step, what's the fastest way to go to T3?
Do i realy need to worry, or is 1 hour 40 min enough time?
Thank you for your time and help!

Hi there Virtual Tourists.
I was wondering if you could help me out with some places that are really worth visiting in London?
I already have a list of more tourist places I would like to visit but I'm also very interested in finding some "hidden gems".
I'm mostly interested in stuff that involves architecture, street art and city/landscapes. I was also wondering where I could have a great view of the London skyline, if anyone could help me out with that?
As my travel partner and I are both in our early twenties, I would greatly appreciate all suggestions!
Thank you so much.
