Hello everybody, I wondered if anybody could help me making an itinerary around Scotland. We are three friends from Spain departing from Glasgow and visiting Scotland for ten days. We would like to visit the following places: Glen Cloe Loch Lomond Fort William (potential trek to Ben Nevis) Mull Isles Skye Isles Whiskey Destillery Eilean Donan Castle Loch Ness Edinburgh Have I missed a "must see"? Do you reckon we can fit everything in our itinerary? We are planing to camp as much as possible. Thanks in advance, Gracias David
Get a good map and chart it out in order and you should easily be able to do that much. Have you missed anything? . . . probably, but you can always go back. Be sure to check the weather before you climb Ben Nevis. It can change drastically and by the moment. We were out hiking in the sunshine and it started to hail. We went through sun, rain, wind and hail within two hours. We laughed when someone told us this but it really happens! I have photos to prove it. Glen Coe is one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen. Enjoy.

I second the map suggestion. When are you intending to come? Are you intending to travel by car? If so, book your ferry in advance for visiting Mull. Just very recently, there are a VT question about going from Glasgow to Fort William via Glen Coe. I'll see if I can point you to it. However, please remember that distances in Scotland are very deceptive and it can take you much longer to travel somewhere than you might imagine by just looking at the mileage. You can trek up Ben Nevis but please, PLEASE, PLEASE make sure you are adequately prepared, with the correct clothing, footwear, etc. For a good view of Ben Nevis, take the cable car up Aonich Mor. On your way to Skye, stop off at the Commandos Memorial at Spean Bridge - it is a very evocative place and will also give you a marvellous view of the country. The Glen Coe Visitors Centre is a recommended stopping place. There are dozens of must-sees that you have missed but then, you only have ten days!

Go to the Fort William Forum and click on the replies for "Advice Please: Trip to Ben Nevis" on 30th August. Also look in the Edinburgh Forum as there have been questions about itineraries. Golly, I have just read that you are planning to camp - so when is it that you are planning to come?

Hi,ten days is not that much to see all, I would recommend to travel north and see Glen Coe, Loch Lomond (or Loch Katrine), Glen Coe, the Isle of Skye and Eilean Donean Castle. Loch Ness is much overrated, I would rather skip it. Return south, and if you still have time, you should drive to Stirling and Edinburgh. Edinburgh is very nice - a must-see.

We've just returned from Mull, have a look at "Magical Moments on Mull" - Island of Mull by nickandchris It's a beautiful island with lots of free camping opportunities as well as official campsites. I think much of the scenery is more spectacular than Glencoe. You don't have to book the ferry from Lochaline to Fishnish, just turn up, although it's further to travel to than Oban. We visit western Scotland every year and love the area. Yes, distances are deceptive due to the roads, especially on Mull, which is mainly single track. The worst road in Scotland is the Loch Lomond route from Tarbert northwards. For a major road it is in apalling condition and narrow. There are often hold-ups when coaches meet each other.
