I have got this 7h in Shiphol on my way to Tokyo from Helsinki. Any suggestions ? I have got a residence permit of Finland; so I guess I can pass though the customs even if the luggage is checked in all the way to Tokyo.
Hi, Some suggestions and information are summarized here: "Schiphol Airport Layover" - Amsterdam Things to Do Tip by Pijlmans Take care, Dennis

There will be no real customs when you arrive from Helsinki, so, yes, you can be free to go out and back to the airport. The fast train connection from the airport to Amsterdam centre is very quick and easy. If you get the boarding card already from Helsinki you do not need to check in when coming back to the airport, just go through the security and only after that you will have the first passport check as you leave Schengen on the way to Japan.

We visited Amsterdam on a 7 hour layover last summer, plenty of time to go into the city and have a look around. We did a 1 hour canal cruise which you can get very close to Centraal Station and had a nice walk around, it's only about 15 minutes by train from the airport. I wrote a few tips on how to visit on a layover on my Amsterdam page, here's a guide I found helpful amsterdamlogue.com/amsterdam...

Do you use 2 different airlines or not? The flight from Finland to Amsterdam is an internal EU-flight within the Schengen zone. Make sure you have the Schiphol gate pass and your passport on you when you return to Schiphol for the second leg of your flight. You will go through passport check and security. Enjoy Amsterdam (canal boat tour?). PJ
