My wife and I will be in Marin county for a day. We like the outdoors as well as shopping/dining. Any recommendations as the "must see" areas. The coast looks interesting but what is the best part? Is Sausalito worth the visit?
If you've never seen a redwood forest you can drive to Muir Woods and stop in Stinson Beach while you're at it. You can also drive up to the top of Mt. Tamalpais for an incredible view of SF Bay. Sausalito is crowded, touristy and way overdeveloped, but if you want some good shopping that's a good place to go. Have a meal in one of the waterfront restaurants like Horizons Restaurant on Bridgeway Avenue. Take the first Sausalito exit and follow the road down to the water level and you'll see it over the water on your right.
