We will be visiting Sapporo from a cruise ship. Is the cruise ship whalf reasonable walking distance from the centre of the city? What is the 2 main sights/features of Sapporo we should see whilst we are there? Many thanks for any info.
Which cruise ship terminal are you docking at? Most ships I have heard of dock at the Muroran terminal. It is not close to Sapporo and will require a bit of time to get into the city itself. If you are lucky, you will be at Otaru which is just 30-40 minutes by train. The town of Otaru itself is very beautiful and quaint.

I took a look again at Muroran itself and found this information: From the dock, you are somewhat close to Motowanishi Station. Go to Higashimuroran Station and you can connect to an express train. Assuming you take the train all the way, it will take roughly 2hr42min. This is because Motowanishi doesn't have many trains. Same for Higashimuroran but you have a better chance of saving time if you take a taxi there and then a train to Sapporo. That's if you have the time in port. If you go to the Muroran City page, they use Google to translate the page from Japanese into English if you want some information about Muroran.
