How to use my brazilian unblocked smartphone in the states, as a tourist ?

by yusha Online Now Jun 22, 2012 at 7:03 PM

I will travel to the u.s. as a tourist and would like to use my smartphone(Samsung 1510 that uses the 3G) in USA , with a data package (100MB) --would be enough for 2 months). Please note that international roaming is too expensive in this case. I need these data packages, for example, to be able to use Skype. Guess the best in the sates are AT&T and T_Mobile? Can I, as a tourist use this service? I need to have an American address, not the address of the hotel? Can I make and receive local calls and SMS?How can I buy this service from Brazil? Need to change the cell chip? What is the cost? Which are the best companies to ask for? Thank you very much

I am traveling alone and a bit nervous. Any tips on getting from GRU to Terminal Rodovario Tiete. Taxi or bus and where to catch it, pay for it. Once at Tiete I need to find a bus to Mococa (any idea of what that would cost) I think it is the Nasser company but I am having difficulty reading the schedules or contacting them. Where do I find ticket offices at Tiete. I have heard that it is very dangerous for me to take the bus from the airport and then to be in Tiete and take another bus to Mococa. I do not speak Portuguese. I simply have no idea where to go to get tickets to wait for buses. Thank you for any help

Trip to Tupã - São Paulo, Brazil

by jbinllb Online Now Feb 29, 2012 at 6:52 PM

My wife and I are possibly planning a short visit to Brazil. We hosted a young Brazilian girl in our home about 12 years ago - she's getting married the first of September, and we're looking into attending her wedding. We would probably arrive a week to ten days prior, and leave a few days after. Most likely fly into/out of São Paulo. While we're hoping to get advice from our Brazilan "daughter", I would love suggestions as to what to do in our short time in Brazil, travelling from São Paulo to Tupã, any tips... I'm sure that her family and her will be quite busy leading up to the wedding, so we'll to be somewhat self-sufficient for at least part of our trip! Thanks!

Yo I'm going to Sao Paulo on a tight budget, so my plan is to eat regular, cheap food the whole time - basically, whatever a working class or lower middle class Paulistano would eat when going out for lunch. I also have a fairly serious peanut allergy. Do I need to be worried? Are any of the staple dishes cooked with peanuts, peanut oil, peanut butter, etc.? Thanks for any advice!

      Security on Metro Trains

by Rissaga25 Online Now Jul 2, 2011 at 2:17 PM

Hello all, I'm going to be spending some time in São Paulo, for a bit and was trying to find out information on the trains. I read an earlier post were people talked a bit about it and I've read the information on the Travel Guides for the Trains. They talk about schedules and fares, but not much about security. My boyfriend has a car, but it is impractical to drive around São Paulo. I would like to take the trains and have experience taking them in Washington DC, Boston, and Atlanta. These are big cities (I know not as big), but robbery is a real chance there too. Yet I've never had any problems on their trains. My boyfriend says the trains are too unsafe, that we will get robbed, and I could get kidnapped or worse. Is he just filling my head with this or is this a real possibility? Please give me the honest truth here. Would it be fine if we don't carry expensive things and possibly just a few dollars in a wallet just in case? Or is this too big a risk? It would be a shame not to be able to spend time in the city while I am there.

      Safety in Sao Paulo

by AlperIst Online Now Jun 2, 2011 at 12:08 PM

Hello, As an experienced traveller who has been to 30 countries as a solo traveller without any tour grup or luxury hotel, I felt quite safe. But I am really scared of Sao Paulo after reading so serious warnings and bad stories at most reliable travel guides. All say that the risk of being pickpocket and gun-robbed is high there. First time I am really afraid before a travel. I am planning to fly to Sao Paulo, stay some days, go by bus to a souther city (for example Porto Alegre, which is mentioned "dangerous" at travel guides, and they most of the time hesitate to use that word) for few days, then to Uruguay, spend a week, head to Buenos Aires for some days, go to Paraguay by bus and have around 10 days, and back to Sao Paulo for few days more and fly back to Istanbul. One month in total, as I do every year one-month travel to different countries, mid July - mid August. A close friend of mine has lots of miles that he can not use, and offered me a ticket as a present, and his miles are enough for a Sao Paulo ticket, whcich is too expensive for me to buy for this travel I already want for some years. What can you tell about the risks and concerns in Sao Paulo? Thanks Alper
