Any good experienced. I am arriving after midnight and did not want to spend a lot on hotel for just some hours. I can move to a better one next day. Is this one ok?
Any other hotels you recommend if this is not a good one?

I am going alone in June to SD just to practice Spanish and meet some people. I want to lie on the beach but don't want to travel far from the city. I am thinking of staying at Buca Chica for 3 days and then to Zona Colonal for another 3 nights. Does that sound good? Any idea of good reasonable hotels ($80 max) that you recommend? I will arrive 11:30 pm, what's the best and cheapest way to make it to the hotel? I heard that it costs less thatn $5 for taxi from one side of town to the other. Why is it more expensive from the airport to the city? IS it safe to meet people on the street and make friends or there is a lot of scam people trying to get into your pocket?
Also, if I book in all inclusive hotel, does that mean three meal and drinks (Dominican food)?
Thanks for the help in advance.

Dominica Republic, Hotel by the BEACH

by tesoro77 Online Now Aug 15, 2012 at 9:52 AM

Greetings: I hope you can help me. I booked Renaissance Santo Domingo Jaragua Hotel&Casino (Marriot.) It is WATERFRONT, but I doubt it is a SWIMABLE beach. I was in Julio Melia area years ago (and now it became so expensive that I had to opt for something else.) I remember that most beaches in the CITY AREA are not swimable. Could anybody clarify that for me? I saw it on the map and photos, and it is WATER front, but I wonder what KIND of water. I love the Caribbean and being there without a beach seems crazy. Could we get to a decent beach from this hotel? Taxi, guagua (bus)? how much if taxi?? Thank you much.

Suggestions for place to go outside Santo Domingo

by Ryan_NYC Online Now Jan 29, 2012 at 8:44 PM

Hello, We are heading to Santo Domingo on 2/20/2012 and will be staying in the city for two nights (2/20 and 2/21). We will be checking in to a resort in Punta Cana on 2/23 so we'll have 2/22 free to travel close by to Santo Domingo. Does anyone have any recommendation as to where to go? We are debating whether we should stay outside Santo Domingo on the night of 2/22 and come back next morning to take the bus to Punta Cana, or stay the third night in the city and take day trip to nearby areas. We would prefer not to go to Boca Chica or Juan Dolio since we will be spending 5 days at the beach in Punta Cana. Many thanks.

Hello, I will be visiting Santo Domingo for my birthday in February (Yay!!). I love bachata (my fav) and salsa dancing. Can anyone recommend a few clubs? A few authentic restaurants? Also, what is a good hotel? Last time I stayed at the Hilton on George Washington but needed to take a cab everywhere and felt isolated from the people of Santo Domingo.

Does anybody know of a good way of transporatation to Punta Cana from Santo Domingo that is also cost effective. I was looking at some sites but most of them seem to be offering very high prices which seem to be for tourists " only". Hi guys my name is Gisela and Im a 22 yr old college student who just moved to old boring Knoxville Tn. I have been dying to go to RD since like forever lol. And finally I'm getting the guts to actually do it in May. The only thing is that I'm probably going by myself since my friends are pretty much broke. I was planning on going to Santo Domingo. My only thing is that I'm kinda worried that it might not be as safe there as I imagined before after looking at news on youtube of the crime there and it's pretty scary , I am looking at some apartments on Malecon (Ocean Blvd.), Miramar Sector. Is that a safe neighborhood? I mean any advice is good advice jaja. I want to stay there for 1-2 weeks perhaps so I was thinking of renting a car but tell me if it's a good idea?. Im a native spanish speaker so I'm not afraid of wondering around the city I just want advice on what's the best way to do it. But please ! help me

    • Travel between Miami, Santo Domingo, and ARUBA, less flying the better, possible?

by django87 Online Now Jun 27, 2010 at 11:12 AM

Hi guys. I have only a few days to figure this out, and I'm really wondering how to pull this off as cheap as possible. Here's the situation. I have a house in Miami I can stay in. I live in NJ. I want to fly to Miami and stay in that house for a few days .. relax a bit. That would be around the 6th of July. On the 9th I need to get to Santo Domingo where I have family. Then on the 16th of July I need to get to Aruba. I'm wondering if there are any decently priced boats going from Miami to DR, and then DR to Aruba. I figured it may be difficult to get those, so I was also thinking if I found a cruise that went from Miami to DR (stayed in DR a few days) and then to Aruba, I would do that (shortening my DR trip but thats ok). Then I would most likely fly from Aruba to NJ. It's a mess right now, I need help! Thanks
