best way to travel from Sto.Domingo to Port au Prince

Dear All, Are there reliable, comfortable and trustworthy/safe private car companies that can drive one from Sto. Dom to Port-au-Prince, Haiti? How long is such a trip, in terms of hours? Any idea on the cost? Is this recomended? I don't know if there are airlines to PAP that will accept me and my three birds! Advice much appreciated. Ileene
