    • A couple of days in Val de Nuria - any tips?

      Spain Apr 24, 2013 at 7:31 AM

      Hi guys,

We'll be arriving to Val de Nuria from Barcelona on a Sunday (we land in Barcelona at 9:30AM). We plan to take the train to Ribes de Freser and from there the Cremallera train to Nuria. I assume we'll get to Nuria around noon, and then we thought about doing the short hike from Nuria to Queralbs along the river gorge.

The following day is a full day for us, so we want to do a longer hike, possibly the GR11.7 - any tips on this route? do you recommend another 1-day hike?

      My questions are:

      1. Are there any good places to stay in Queralbs, or should we try to stay in Nuria?
      2. What are the best 1-day hikes around Queralbs/Nuria?
      3. Is there a place in Barcelona where we can store our baggage, before arriving to Val de Nuria?

      Thanks!

Based on Google it is around 6 hours drive. Since I'm not familiar with the road and traffic conditions in July, should we stick with this plan or shorten the distances?

I am planning a trip to Spain but undecided. I'm looking for small town old world Spain. I'm looking to travel in June and will most likely fly into Madrid, I have 6 nights in Spain. I know train or bus to Logrono is going to take a bit of time from my trip but looking at flights to places closer to Logrono don't work any better. Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on either city?

Has that restoration been finished by now?

by Frequentraveler Online Now Nov 8, 2011 at 7:32 PM

I have a reservation for an automatic car to be pick up at Santiago de Compostela Airport in January for 6 days. The cost is 422 for the six days. I can still make a reservation for the same car with a manual transmission for half the price for what I will be paying for the automatic. This is my situation: I can drive an manual as long as I do not have to go up a hill where there might be a light in the middle of the hill and have to use the clutch and brake pedal. I had a bad experience in Tenerife, Spain and do not want to relive this experience again. However I spent one week in Lisboa, Portugal and rented a manual transmission car and never had a problem with the roads, everything seem to be at level no hills. Can anyone make any recomendations? What driving like in Santiago de Compostela? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

by vyriato Online Now May 24, 2010 at 12:20 PM

We would like to make Camino de Santiago from Roncesvalles to Santiago in August this year by bike. Unfortunately, it is not possible for us (2 people) to go in other less crowded dates. As 2010 is Holy Year in Santiago, we are afraid there will be so many people making the Camino. And, as we are going by bike, we have no preference in "Albergues", as people going on walk are accomodated first. Do you think is it reasonably possible to try to make the trip, or would it be too risky and we would probably have problem to find a place to sleep? Thank you very much.
