change location

Taxis, buses, coaches, etc

by HKC Online Now Mar 17, 2012 at 10:04 AM

Hello, We are sailing to Vigo mid April. The 7 day cruise has been chosen especially because we stop for a whole day in Vigo and want to see S de C (we hope to return again then by land next holiday).

We have been reading about the City and would like to visit it on our own instead of booking a cruise coach (which seems to include stops for tea/cakes, souvenir shops, etc.

Is it possible to get a return trip independent coach etc from Vigo to S de C (or would it be very expensive by taxi)?
Also any advice on the 'must not miss' things would be very appreciated.
Many thanks.

I have not made this journey, but you can certainly take a bus from Vigo to Santiago. Use the journeyplanner here:

    http://horarios.monbus.es/

Make sure you select 'por localidad'.

There are roughly hourly buses on weekdays, taking around an hour and a half.

You can also go by train.

    renfe.com/EN/viajeros/horari...

will give you train times, details and fares in English. Journey time is around 1.5 hours. There are gaps in departures though, so it very much depends on what time you can get off the ship as to whether the train will be a good option. But you could always do bus one way and train the other, of course.

It's about 90km, around an hour, between the two places. So a taxi won't be especially cheap.
