We will be at a wedding in Petaluma late February. We are looking to do some birding, hiking,
spend some time in nature in general for 3-4 days. We have been to Muir Woods and Yosemite...
what would be your recommendations ? Maybe spending one night in 3 or 4 different locations
up the coast? TIA
Visiting Sequoia National Park for one day in mid-February. I will be in a rental car. Are there routes into the park via highways without chain restrictions on vehicles? Having a hard time finding information online.
I would like to take a snowshoe tour, but will not be able to put chains on my vehicle.
Hi there, i'm traveling to Orange for work and staying at the Doubletree Hilton Hotel in Anaheim until Friday. i have booked a room in Huntington Beach solo Friday night-Sunday AM (will be flying out Sunday from John Wayne) I unfortunately am one year shy of being of age to rent a car and will need to find a economical and semi-easy way of getting to HB from my hotel or somewhere nearby. Any suggestions would help!
Also, how early would you suggest I leave HB on Sunday to make an 11 AM flight out of John Wayne?
We'll have 5 days in Yosemite at the end of an RV trip starting in Las Vegas - active family of 5 with 3 old (!) teenagers - does anyone have recommendations on which walks/hikes we should definitely do/RV parks we should stay in? Very conscious of the 5 month booking window and won't miss that - any recommendations gratefully received! Also looking at white water rafting - emailed Whitewater Voyages a week ago but have yet to hear from them - any other operators anyone would recommend? Many thanks
I am from the New Jersey area and I hike in the Adirondacks (46, 4000 footers), New Hampshire (48, 4000 footers) and the Catskills (35, 3500 footers). Each of these areas has a group of mountains you can work towards. I am thinking about hiking in California and I was wondering if you know of any such group of mountains in California? I would appreciate any help you could offer or any website you can point me towards.
Hi there! I'm traveling for work to Orange this week and decided to travel solo and stay in HB friday-sunday. Any suggestions for things to do or sightseeing? I'm not really into the whole shopping scene, more of an artsy/nature type of girl. Any sites or places close to HB i should make a point of visiting? Thank you!!
Hi there- We are from the East coast and visiting Yosemite via SF in mid July with three kids aged 4-11. We have reservations in Yosemite Valley for 3 nights and then were hoping to head up to Tahoe area for 4-5 nights before heading back to SF for our flight home.
1) What parts of the park (must-sees) can we cover on our drive up to Tahoe? What is the best way to drive to see the sights but not too far out of the way. We are okay with making a few small stops along the way to check things out.
2) Any recommendations for what town to stay in Tahoe area (don't need to be near casinos so probably CA side on North side of the lake?? Open to thoughts/what to do. There is so much information out there and its hard to know where to focus in. This is obviously a big trip for us so hope we can see everything we want to see.
3) Any of the gold rush towns that would be convenient either on drive from Yosemite valley- Tahoe or Tahoe to SF? I guess we could go from SF- Yosemite route as well- just don't want to do extra hours of driving with kids if we don't have to.
Any other tips on any of the above on what we should do/see/eat are much appreciated! We can't wait!!
Hi there, I will stay over the weekend in San Francisco to see the concert in AT&T park on Saturday. I rented an apartment through Airbnb at the corner 7th St. / Howard St. I read a lot to find out about the safety there but I'm still not clear.. Is it safe to stay there and walk during day and night? I planned to walk to the AT&T park and back late night, would this be ok? Thank you for your help! I travel alone...cheers
Hi, I am taking my family of 6 to America from Ireland in July 2016.
My children will be 13,17,17 and 18.
We are staying in Mill Valley but want to spend most of our trip in San Francisco.
We are all crazy about sports so was wondering sports wise whats happening during this time? Basketball,Baseball,American Football (prices etc)? Anything local?
We are hoping to spend a day in Santa Cruz as we would love to see some sun being from Ireland, would this be worth it and is there any other sunny places you would recommend And also perhaps take a overnight trip to Lake Tahoe.
We will be doing typical tourist things such as Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge etc but could anyone suggest something which isn't a typical tourist thing that would worth doing/seeing? We really want to get a taste of life as an American and don't want to do all typical tourist stuff! We have a car can go anywhere!
As we will be staying around mill valley is there anything around here(within a couple of hours travelling) we could do to get a taste of California life?
Best place for shopping?
Any other advise? Stuff for teenagers?
Apologies for all the questions, if anyone could answer even just one it would be so helpful! We are hoping for the holiday of a lifetime so really want to make it worth it!
Thank you so so much to anyone who replies.
Need some help!
Booked flights last week, with a plan to fly into SFO, rent and RV and spend 5 nights in Yosemite. Fast forward to today, and the main campgrounds are fully booked for the week we chose in May. Wawona and Hogdon Meadow are still available. I used the NPS chat feature to inquire about these, but they weren't too helpful. The most that I got was that Wawona was a 45min drive from the Valley.
So my question then is....What's my best option for an RV, closest to the main "attraction" hikes? I started some research but with only 1 or two spaces left I feel like I need to decide ASAP and I have no sense of the area!! Would we have to move the RV daily and drive into the park? Is there shuttle/bus service from these campgrounds? Are there any better privately run options?? Help!
I have rented an apartment for a week in the Marina District. What's the best / easiest way to get there from the Airport?
Not sure we want to take public transit. Convenience is definitely our priority with jet lag and luggage in tow.
How much would a taxi cost? Is it a flat fare?
Maybe a limo service? Uber?
Shame on Delaware North, the corporation that previously ran the concession contract at Yosemite National Park. They lost their bid to continue the contract and is now showing just how greedy they are. They have trademarked the names of the Ahwahnee Hotel and Curry Village among other things and is trying to prevent the National Park Service and new concessionaire from using these names. Delaware North wants to be paid $50 million for use of the names, including that of Yosemite National Park.
Hey! I'm hoping I can gain some advice from you all!
My boyfriend and I will be having a holiday in California this September! We plan to stop over at a few different places during our break! So far we have decided on and booked the beginning and end of our trip!
San Francisco - 3 nights
Las Vegas - 4 nights
We have 15 nights away in total.
After our stay in San Francisco we are a bit confused/undecided on what to do. We want to visit Yosemite for 3 nights after but wasn't sure wether to take one night and drive down the big Sur and stay over then drive into Yoesmite? After Yosemite we plan to drive to LA and stay there for 4-5 nights dependent on if we take the extra night to drive the big Sur.
I guess in a long winded way im asking is it worth it to do this extra driving or should we just go straight on to Yosemite after San Francisco ? In my mind I wonder if it will be a big drive and a little anticlimactic when we arrive there!
Any advice you may have would be greatly appreciated :)
