We are going to San Miguel the end of October and staying in the San Antonio area. We used to love going to Cha Cha Cha on previous visits but understand it is now closed. Does anyone know if that is true? Is there another restaurant in its place now? We would love some other suggestions for good restaurants in that neighborhood.

planning time to visit colonial cities around Guanajuato

by oslocairo Online Now Aug 24, 2010 at 10:01 AM

Hi! I am planning a trip where I will stay in a hostel in Guanajuato and will have 9 days of visiting time. Since I am making Guanajuato my home base, I would like to visit other cities near by as day trips. I know nothing about these places, but realize, at least that some are smaller than others and of course, and perhaps several could be visited in one day, while others would take several days. Nonetheless, I am on a limited budget and so must return to Guanajuato to sleep. Also, I do not have a car, so would likely take a bus. With that in mind, What are your recommendations? My thought was the following: Guadalajara ( I know, more than one day, but possibly city center highlights?), Queretaro, Morelia/ Patzuaro, Zacatecas. San Luis Potosi, Aquaclaientes,San Miguel de Allende. I have read that Dolores Hidalgo is very important historically, but architecturally, not of that much interest, but I am not sure. I assume I will spend 3 days or so seeing Guanajuato as well and can, of course see it in small chunks of time each day as well. I have a lot of energy and don't mind long days, but am I just crazy to try to see all of this in my short time? I really appreciate your help. Thank you for any suggestions.

    • How Late Does the Bus Run from Q to SMA?

by wanderlustig Online Now May 23, 2010 at 12:49 PM

I will be traveling to San Miguel de Allende in August. I'm flying in to Mexico City and taking the bus. I've already learned a lot about this process by reading the answers to others' postings. I still have a couple of questions: (1) I will arrive in Queretaro between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. Are there still buses running at that hour to SMA? (2) I will be returning to Mexico City via bus on a Sunday. Do buses run as frequently on Sundays as they do on weekdays?

by gabrielheiser Online Now Nov 12, 2007 at 10:07 AM

I will be driving down to San Miguel de Allende in a couple months. I have been dismayed by the very limited list of articles a person entering with an FMT may bring with them into Mexico! I will be down there for 3-6 months and would like to bring a few pieces of electronic equipment, more than 5 CDs(!), etc. How can I get advanced approval for these items so I don't run into customs trouble at the border? Thanks!

      Which airport to fly into

by doogienj Online Now Jul 2, 2007 at 5:31 AM

Greetings, We'll be visiting SMA around Thanksgiving. I know the best seems to be to fly into Leon or Queretaro and the drives are 1 1/2 and 1 hours respectively. I do want to avoid Mexico City but see some good fare to Guadalajara. Does anyone know how far that is and how long it would take from there to SMA? Cheers, Douglas

    • September in San Miguel

by madwrk Online Now Mar 28, 2007 at 9:14 AM

We - a couple who live in Todos Santos, BCS - plan to travel for the month of September on the mainland. We would like to spend a week in San Miguel and are looking for a small self-contained casita to rent. We do not need a huge kitchen - just enough space and necessities to prepare breakfast and lunch. We have a guest casita in Todos Santos and would consider a trade - the trade to be used at a time convenient to both parties. Our casita can be seen at www.casasofiabaja.com We are also willing to pay rent - maybe650 a week? We will be traveling by bus and would like central accommodations. Please let us know if you have any suggestions.

Hi, I'm a senior at Allegheny College, a small school near Pittsburgh, PA,and am writing a thesis about the role of American retirees in Mexico. I would like to speak to a few individuals about what attracted them to Mexico, how they perceive Americans' integration in San Miguel, and how visible the foreign presence is in the community. I am familiar with the area, having spent a semester in Queretaro and am fluent in Spanish. If you or someone you know would be willing to give me feedback I would greatly appreciate it!
