Beaches in San Juan - Vieques

by besbel Online Now Jun 13, 2012 at 7:57 PM

Hi all, I'm planning to go to Puerto Rico for four full days by the end of June or beginning July. I was interested mostly in spending time in a nice beach, visiting the Old San Juan and, if possible, going to Vieques. Please does anyone know: 1) Which is the best beach in the San Juan area? Are there better beaches in other parts of the island worth visiting? Is is possible to reach them by public transportation? I don't drive, so unfortunately renting a car is not an option. 2) Is the Vieques visit possible in such a short time frame? If so, which is the most reasonable and decently priced way to go there? If you had to pick between San Juan and Vieques for the full stay, which one would you recommend? Thank you!

When I visited Puerto Rico, I really wanted to go to Vieques, but couldn't make it. We stayed in Fajardo, and there was an inexpensive ferry from Fajardo to the island. Also, there is a very nice well kept beach between San Juan and Fajardo- Luquillo Beach. It is 25 miles East of San Juan and near El Yunque rain forest. It is one of the 'blue flag' beaches which is globally recognized for water quality and environmental management. Unfortunately, I can't help you with public transportation, and I didn't visit other parts of the island, but with four days, I would expect that you could visit both San Juan and Vieques. Good luck!
