    • June 24--St. Giovanni Day

      Florence May 6, 2013 at 9:05 PM

I am planning a dinner at a restaurant in City Center Firenze with a group of friends on June 24. Some people have written back saying that June 24 is Saint Giovanni Day in Firenze. Is there anything I should know about that day in Firenze? Would it be a problem to go into City Center that evening?

      Thank you in advance.

Best location to pick up rental car in Florence

      Florence May 9, 2013 at 12:54 PM

We are arriving in Florence by train (SMN station) and need to pick up a car to drive to our rented villa in Tuscany. I remember getting a car in Florence before (but can't remember the pick up location) that was not too far from the Autostrada toward Siena.

We need to reserve our car with Europcar, but don't know the best location to avoid the ZTL.

Also EuropCar has a mid-size car Alfa Giulietta (or similar) they say will seat 5 people. We have 4 adults traveling together: In past travels to Italy it was just my husband and me and we had plenty of room. Does anyone have experience with a mid-size car with Europcar?

Thank you in advance for your response.

      Sundays in San Gimignano

Our tentative plan is to leave Florence in the morning, take the bus to San Gimignano, look around for a few hours, then atch another bus to Siena ( for the Palio ). Will there be any problems doing this on a Sunday? As I recall, some in some small Italian towns, almost everything except the church shuts down on Sundays. Thanks HB

by Corsaro Online Now Feb 4, 2011 at 8:51 AM

We are going to take the bus down from Florence and want to see San Gim and also Siena for the day. If we catch an early bus (8:15) from Florence to Poggibonsi and then the bus to San Gimignano, how much time is sufficient for seeing the town before busing over to Siena? I know this is a terrible question, but I'd like to eat lunch at a little restaurant I know in Siena and have the afternoon there before returning to Florence. Thanks!

      Horse Riding Day Trip

by nalahacjr Online Now Jun 16, 2010 at 11:15 AM

Hello to all - My wife and I will be visiting the Tuscan countryside in early July. We are camping for a few nights in Barberino Val d'Elsa. She loves horses and I would like to take her on a horse riding day trip in Tuscany. We are renting a car and visiting some of the hills towns and beautiful countryside for 2 days, so I don't want an extended horse riding trek, just a a day trip. I was wondering if anyone knew of some around the Barberino Val d'Elsa area? We aren't planning on renting the car for the day we are doing the horse trip, so I would prefer something somewhat closer to the campground (maybe like a 10-15km radius), but we can take bus/train to get there, no problem. Any advice or recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Also, for our 2 days of traveling in the car, if you have some "can't miss - must see" towns, drives, or spots I would love to hear that as well. Thank you so much!! - Ryan

We are three couples that are thinking of renting a villa in San Gimignano for 2 weeks starting on September 5th. I have several questions that I hope you can help me with. First, how crowded is it at that time of year? Is it a good location to see the surrounding area? We have a car, any recomendations for things to see and do during our stay? We also enjoy wine and cooking, are there any wineries or wine bars that you would recomend or culinary activities? Thank you in advance for all your help. rbp
