Is anyone familiar with SF Marriott Marquis Hotel please? We're in town for 3 nights and wonder if this is a good location. We don't have a car and use public transport gladly. Is this an ok location for sightseeing, shopping and good (not necessarily expensive ones) restaurants?
Yes, we stayed there two Aprils ago while in town for business. It's a very nice hotel but it's good you don't have a car 'cause parking was really expensive. We didn't have a car either and found the location very convenient to public transit. Rooms were comfortable, quiet and clean. You can see my review here: San Francisco Hotel Tips by goodfish

The Marriott Marquis is an ideal location on 4th Street. During the week it is primarily a business hotel with a lot of conferences being hosted there because of its location near Moscone Center and all. As Kate has indicated it has a great location not only to the muni (local buses) but also to BART and CALTRAIN (in case you wish to explore the Peninsula). I have not stayed at the hotel itself but because it is such a large hotel it is hard to miss when you are downtown in SF near Market Street.
