Can you recommend a nice but inexepensive centrally located hotel that is close to transit in San Francisco? It is for business during the week.

I found Union Square Plaza Hotel to be good value and well located.

Yes, focus on Union Square hotels for a central and safe location. Use www.booking.com to find something in your price category using their filter system. There are lots of reviews there and on www.tripadvisor.com.

Hey! My favorite place to stay in and around Union Square is the Chancellor Hotel. Nice rooms and an unbeatable price of under 150 a night. Here is a link to the hotel site; http://www.chancellorhotel.com/ Have a great trip :)

I was recommended The Mosser in 2005 - I was there for a congress: perfect location! :-) See my SFO page if you wish?

For business in SF (when I lived in LA--but up in SF now) I always used either the Mark Hopkins or the Stanford Court. Great central safe locations with nice public areas/bars for social business if necessary.

That website is for hotels near the airport, which is outside of SF by at least 30 minutes. The OP wants to stay in the center of town.

To really get a good idea of what hotels will cost, go to Priceline.com you will find a huge range of hotels in and out of the city. Anywhere from 1 star to 5 star properties. Good descriptions of areas and hotel ammenities. You can bid for a hotel on their website, but don't use it unless you have knowledge of how to bid and perhaps have done it before, I use the bidding area of Priceline and have gotten some great 3/4 star properties for very little, but again don't use this feature unless you know what you are doing, you can at least get an idea of what the costs are, and then you can check directly with the hotels web site to compare prices.
