I will be at 1458 howard street this week for a day. Im new to SFO, just wanted to know if there is anything of tourist interest closeby, and also how far would the Golden gate be and if i'll be anywhere close to the famed SFO tram or cable car. Thnx in advance Ali
Not sure where Howard Street is but don't you don't have to rely on cable car - San Francisco is a very walkable city (as long as you can manage hills) and the cable cars were often too full to take anyway, when we were last there. It's just not that huge an area to try and do on foot. By "the Ggolden Gate" I assume You mean the bridge? Google a map with your Howard St. address - that'll tell you how far away you'll be. I do recommend walking at least to the middle of the bridge and back - great fun!!1 I didn't find S.F. to be full of tourist attractions. Most of the appeal is just walking the various neighborhoods of the city and taking in the wonderful scenery and architecture. So, just strap on your most comfortable shoes, grab a city map at your hotel and go enjoy yourself!

Alycat, you can easily google map the address and see what's close by :o) Looks like you could walk down Mission Street to the Mission District and have a burrito, plus see Mission Dolores. Something off-the-beaten-path we have enjoyed is taking in all the murals in the district: http://www.precitaeyes.org/ It's a funky, arty area. We found it pretty safe to wander around during the day.

You're in a great area! Just walk up 10th St to Market, and you're right by City Hall and the Opera House. There's a Farmer's Market every weekend in UN Plaza, and if you walk up 10th st, it turns into Polk st. Once on Polk, make a left on Hayes and that'll take you right to Alamo Sq and the Victorian Homes that're in every postcard you ever see of here. Also, "Hayes Valley" is a vibrant neighborhood, with great shops and restaurants. And if you want to go the other direction, further south of Market St, there are some funky galleries and shops in that neighborhood as well. The Cable Car is pretty close to you if you want to catch it at Powell St. Be forewarned though: The lines are always huge in that location! If you want to take a ride, walk up to California St and that Cable Car usually isn't as crowded. Have a great time in the City. The weather is gonna be beautiful all week.

Check out Yerba Buena Gardens on Google. It´s about 5 long blocks from your Howard St. address. Very worthwhile. There are buses on Mission St. Union Square is close to Yerba Buena Gardens and from there Chinatown is a short walk.
