SD->LA traffic

I try to avoid rush hour, but I need to be in Palos Verdes at 10:00 am on a Friday. How early do I have to start from central SD, and what is the traffic like? ( I'm presuming that the toll road is fastest through southern OC ) And once I'm in Seal Beach is it faster to go west on HWY 1 or northwest on 405 and then south on 110? Thanks
